Hugh Douglas too - didn't fit Tuna's system.  Parcell's was a God-send for this org but he wasn't great with personnel moves. The one that really pissed me off was when Tuna knew he was leaving the Jets and on his way out gifted Mo Lewis that monster contract when he was already declining.  But whatever, still grateful for Bill and of course Curtis Martin and Kevin Mawae were 5-Star gets. 

Lewis was again 2nd team all-pro (and 3rd straight probowl) season in 2000, the season after he signed his last extension. But yeah he fell off a cliff after that & post-2000 his most memorable play on the field was paving the way for Brady.

Hard to find articles on it 20+ years later, but I feel like he gave one to Bryan Cox like 5 min before he handed the reins to Bradway, but that was nullified somehow. He & Cox were buddies with similar affinities for the ponies. Or maybe my memory is hazy. Very possible lol.

I checked.  Looks like your (flawed) memory is better than my (flawed) memory.  They cut Cotchery on August 4th and signed Mason August 6th.  I think the issue was the big money that they gave Holmes, and then letting Edwards walk for Burress.  Having those two douchebags in camp was enough that some of us start thinking the third one was already there. Cotchery was a pretty big part of the 2009 team, but had the (when the going gets tough, the tough get a) serious groin injury in 2010.  I'd put the video of the big catch when he got injured against the Browns, but it is from the NFL and they won't let it embed properly.  He missed a couple of games, and only had around 100 yards over the last 5.  He did put up nearly 100 against the Pats in the playoffs.  I guess he had a dispute about how big a piece he was going to be going foward and what kind of characters were going to be in the huddle.  In retrospect he obviously had a point.

There were a few guys that got deals that I think were either agreed to by Parcells (fat ****) or handshake deals he promised guys before he left that they honored.  Pretty sure Cox was one of them.

Nah.  Coles was a 3rd in 2000 who left for the Redskins and huge deal in 2003.  Moss was 16 overall in 2001 and stayed with the team for 2003 and 2004, and then they traded him to Redskins to get Coles back.  I think Moss was primed to hold out and he signed a monster deal with the Redskins.   The each made the pro bowl in their first year in Washington.

He sorta walked. Jets exposed him in restricted free agency, and he signed an offer sheet with Washington. Washington had made an RFA tender to return specialist Chad Morton a day or so earlier, and the Jets chose to match that one and let Coles go. The former ‘skins also signed Randy Thomas that year. It was an all out raid.

I mentioned that earlier.  They didn't just "let him be exposed."  They handed over promising RT Ryan Young to insure that the Texans would pick up Glenn and Marcus Coleman.  They had to get out from under the Parcells contract cloud.   A handshake deal with Charley Casserly who repaid us by getting us to hire Mike ******* Maccagnan!

Parcells trading down twice from the overall #1 and in the process allows Orlando Pace and Walter Jones to go to the Rams, Seahawks and Canton instead of the Jets.  Sickening.  He didn't even use Farrior correctly.

For me, the first guy who comes to mind when it comes to dumping or trading guys that should have hung around is WR Terance Mathis.  It was very early in my fandom, but I remember him being a guy who rarely saw the field and then blew up with Atlanta.

Worst trade IMO was Hugh Douglas for a bag of peanuts only to go on and be one of the best pass rushers in the NFL for many years to follow.  That one stung because you knew he could play but they gave him away anyway.

The trade didn’t work out well but you make it seem like the jets gave up their first rounder for jolley straight up. The jets gave up a pick in the mid 20’s for jolley and a pick in the 40-45 range. In the jets mind, they moved down 20 spots to get a starting TE. That didn’t work out but within a few drafts, the jets did something very similar with the bears where they swapped second rounders and  got Thomas jones. That one worked out.

Not including Hugh Douglas because even though he had a solid career his performance in his contract year was underwhelming / worrisome.

jeff blake is a good pull, I couldn't remember his name.   He was never a star but almost always better than what we had at QB.

They got a couple of lower picks in that deal.  They were not good.

The Jets got • Doug Jolley • 2005 second round pick (#47-Mike Nugent) • 2005 sixth round pick (#182-Cedric Houston) • 2005 sixth round pick (#185-Chad Owens)

The Raiders got • 2005 first round pick (#26-Chris Spencer) • 2005 seventh round pick (#230-Matt Cassel) 

On the value chart

Jets got Jolley + 430 + 17 + 15.8 = Jolley + 462.8

Raiders got 700 + 1 = 701

Jolley + 462.8 = 701

Jolley = 238.2 or a pick between 70 and 71. 

The Jets did use that 6th to move up 4 slots in the 4th for Kerry Rhodes.  The real pain was in the fact that the pick after the Raiders took Spencer was Roddy White.  Heath Miller went a few picks later and had a way better career than Jolley.  Logan Mankins was the last pick in the 1st that year. The following year the Jets traded Jolley for a future 6th that ended up being Jacob Bender (one of the many failed attempts at replacing Kendall in 2007).  The pick they got (177) was worth 19 points, but it was a year later and probably worth around 5 with the discount.  Jolley didn't even sniff 400 yards for his career after the Jets obtained him.  

The Thomas Jones deal? They still had to pay the ******* guy.  The pick they gave up was Eric Weddle.  Does that change your view at all?  He was drafted in 2007 and got another ring this February.  The Jets ended up with Harris, but they had a trade a 3rd and a 6th for the privilege of picking 10 slots later than their original pick and getting Chansi Stuckey back.

Can’t believe I read this whole thread without a mention of Verlon Biggs, Biggs solidified the Jets win in the AFL Chsmpionship game and was a very good DE.
He recovered Lamonicas backward lateral to clinch the game in its waning minutes
Weeb was too cheap to pay him so he went on to play for the Washington Redskins under George Allen.
