Jamal Adams still on PUP, unlikely for week 1

Best in the nation.

Ultimately, Jamal Adams was the catalyst for the sequence of events which led us to Aaron Rodgers.

Coach Pete Carroll was asked on Tuesday if Adams has a realistic chance of playing in the season opener, and based on his answer, it doesn't seem likely that the Seahawks will have him on the field for Week 1.

"He's not quite as far along," Carroll said.

Since his trade from the New York Jets to the Seahawks in 2020, Adams has not maintained his health for a full season, leading to his absence in 25 games over the past three years. This season holds significant importance for Adams; if he can stay healthy and contribute to elevating the Seahawks' defense to an elite level, it would finally justify the steep price Seattle paid for his services.

HOF level trade for a box safety.

Jets receive:

Two 1st rounders, a 3rd -->  AVT, Garrett Wilson

Brad McDougald -- > LOL but whatever

Seahawks receive:

Jamal Adams --> IR

4th rounder --> Coby Bryant

😆 That is all.

What a fall from grace. Adams was actually a good player for the Jets. He might as well be out of the league at this point he's so irrelevant

I wonder if he’s capable of even pretending to be humble.

I generally find rehashing the past to be pretty boring, but taking a ****ing box safety over Mahomes and Watson still gives me a headache that I’d like to complain about.

that’s the part about the smear campaign that won’t go away. It was a QB in the next class that caused Maccagnan to pass on a QB that year.

he would have taken mayfield or Sam but he scouted Sam in person twice and fell in love.

It was Sam not Adams.

He’d drafted Hackenberg in the second round the previous year, and was looking at the entire 2018 class over what was right in front of him. He got Sam, and that didn’t work out, either (after being locked in on Mayfield).

But again, this is boring. Who cares? Mac and the Prez both suck.

Doesn’t really matter does it?  In all scenarios, Macc took a Box Safety over a QB for a really stupid reason.

And even if he really didn’t like the QBs in that class, he could have opted for CMC, Marlon Humphrey, Marshon Lattimore, Mike Williams, etc etc and it would have been a better use of draft capital.

My recollection was it was leaked he'd have taken a QB over Adams in '17 if Trubisky was still there. It's possible the Jets were even looking to trade up to draft him, as there were teams approaching both Chicago and San Fran when Chicago made the trade that surprised everyone.

I've little doubt he liked the idea of drafting Darnold the next season, but it's impossible to plan to draft someone a year later who was the frontrunner to go #1 overall, even if you're quasi-tanking. Pissing away a whole NFL season because maybe this one player will fall to you and be everything you think. As it is, he ended up with the #6 pick and the only reason he did end up with Darnold is the player's star had taken a hit to the point he slipped to #3.

Also it doesn't credit him any more to pass up on two star QBs - one of whom is on pace to be the best ever - to hold out on the hope that a year later he might end up with Sam Darnold, who could've even stayed in school for his junior season for all he knew. Meanwhile a few years earlier Hackenberg also looked promising as a freshman, and Maccagnan fell in love with him, too, putting his faith in the idea that all blame for Hack's woes were to be placed on the sanctions that depleted Penn State's roster.

Nor does it do him any credit to have decided he'd be happy with any of the 3 QBs in the 1st round who didn't pan out (had picks 1-2 gone Mayfield-Darnold, he'd have taken Rosen #3). So even the year he was saving for his next high QB pick, he was ok with any of the 3 busts, and neither of the 2 MVP-level QBs. On the heels of drafting Christian Hackenberg in round 2.

Maccagnan was quite arguably the worst GM in NFL history. Absolute franchise poison.

Breer documented it all. It was Mayfield or Sam but he wanted Sam.

He traded up to 3, not 2, and did so well before the draft began.

It was also documented (including by his own admission) he was surprised when the Giants passed on Darnold at #2.

The other QB in the mix was Rosen, not Allen.

There’s no retelling of this story that ends with him being anything other than NFL franchise poison.

Yeah, he traded up expecting to get Mayfield but he really wanted Sam. He was very surprised when Cleveland and the Giants passed and then he took about 2 seconds to pick Darnold.

It's inarguable at this point.  Not even close.  His draft record makes Matt Millen look like Ozzie Newsome.

And as terrible as Macc was at drafting, he was somehow even worse when it came to contracts/free agents.

You couldn't do a worse job than Macc even if you were intentionally trying to sabotage a franchise while ensuring you kept your job for 5+ years.
