should the Jets re-sign Stevan Ridley ? ? ?

Stevan Ridley looked to be on the verge of becoming one of the top running backs in the NFL after rushing for 1,263 yards and 12 touchdowns for the New England Patriots back in 2012.Unfortunately for Ridley, he has never been able to regain that type of form since, and a lot of that has been due to injuries. Ridley tore both his ACL and MCL in 2014 in New England and wound up as damaged goods when he hit the free agency market later that year. The Jets signed him to a one-year deal to see if he had anything left in the tank last off-season. He will hit the open market once again this spring.

Lets play a little keep, or dump…

Player Name:
Stevan Ridley

Position
Running Back

2014 Stats:
94 rush, 340 yds, 2TD.

2015 Stats:
36 rush, 90 yds, 0 TD

2015 Summary:
It was a long road back for Ridley, who missed all of training camp recovering from reconstructive knee surgery. Because he was unable to practice for all of camp, he began the season the PUP (physically unable to perform) list and didn’t see action until Week 10 against the Bills.Once healthy, and on the field, Ridley failed to make an impact on the Jets offense. It didn’t help that he was behind Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell on the depth chart, but Ridley was not able to make the most of his opportunities, rushing for just 2.5 yards per carry on the season. His best game of the season, coincidentally, came against his former team the New England Patriots in what was the Jets biggest win of the season in Week 16.

Potential 2016 Role With Jets:
As of right now the Jets only running backs on the roster are the injured Zac Stacy and newly signed Dominique Williams, so the door for a return is still open for the once promising Ridley. The first thing he needs to prove is that he has the burst and power that he had back in 2012.But the odds are stacked against Ridley. Not many running backs can fully recover from a torn ACL and MCL and be the same player afterwards.

Other Running Back’s on Roster :
Zac Stacy, Dominique Williams

Contract Estimation :
1 year for the league minimum.

Is this a joke? that question shouldn't even be asked he needs to find a team that can get away with offensive holding calls like the Patriots do so that he can have any glimmer of success like he had with the Pats. It amazes me how fast the players let go by the Patriots get picked up and how poorly they normally do on their next team.

It would really be up to our medical team.  Was the "plodding" that we saw because of

his recovery from the ACL?  Can we expect to see explosion this year?  Those are my

questions because of course I wouldn't want him based on what he showed

To answer OP:  No.

RB is a position that needs a serious re-examination.

Ivory/Powell, when healthy and used correctly, are a great combo.

They are never healthy.

And that won't get better as they get older.

And we can't win without the run.

Front Office needs to think about that in FA/Draft 2016.

This is a very good question. He was coming off of an injury and for the most part when he returned was a non factor. He often gained negative yardage. And his touches hurt drives. But he did have a few good runs. I guess the coaching staff would have a good idea on whether this was him recovering from an injury or just not having the speed and ability to make plays. Based on what I saw I wouldn't re-sign him and I'd draft a Rb this year. And of course a good return guy. Even if they are separate jobs I have no problem with a return specialist. Our average starting point on drives was a detriment to the offense.

God no, he is useless.  Ridley never hits the hole, he takes a jump step to right right or left before moving forward EVERY TIME he touches the ball, meanwhile the hole disappears.  It is maddening, he should be working the drive thru at Mickey D's next year.

The last time we really made out with a Running back from outside the organization was Thomas Jones.  I think it is time to draft someone.

I don't know that I trust this staff to evaluate RBs.  They traded for Stacy, signed Ridley and let Powell test the market before having him back short term.  The guys they went after sucked.  I hope they reevaluate their evaluations!
