Saleh Not Naming Starting QB for Thursday Night

This Saleh presser was different. ?

Hughes asked a great question:  given the organizational investment, if it's close, do you roll with Zach (over MW)?

Saleh actually said no.  He went on with a relatively lengthy answer talking about Pete Carrol and how draft status doesn't mean anything once players set foot in the building.  The best players play.  Period.

No more "everybody knows, Zach is the future of this organization".

It's a significant shift in public stance, at least from Saleh.

I think Zach is done in NY.

Maybe a subconscious slip or maybe nothing:  but Saleh also said Zach is "gonna be a good QB in this league".  He could have just as easily said "for the Jets" or "for this team" but he didn't.

I think Joe Douglas will look to trade Wilson if he can.  Try to find another CAR to fleece.

JD would have to be insane to head into '23 with ZW as his #1 on the depth chart with a team that's ready to compete now.

My take on that is it’s part of the tough love/humbling part of the reset. They want Zach feeling the pressure of competition

Also, there’s no way ZW isn’t starting this game.

You think a 3-game inactive streak was embarrassing? Imagine getting benched again w/the #1 pick of your draft class coming to town in the heat of a playoff race in PRIMETIME. That’s beyond painfully embarrassing. If the Jets don’t start Wilson vs TLaw, it would absolutely crush any shred of confidence left in ZW’s body and there might be no coming back from it.

Not sure what the HC is supposed to say to the question:  "Can you commit to him if he is healthy?"  The right answer is no comment.  The wrong answer is "Yes he's our starter if healthy".  This way when they determine he is not healthy it will not deem like they feel they are stuck with ZW as last resort.

Like when your wife asks "would you choose a young Jasmine Blyth over me?"   Of course you would but since you ain't getting that the answer is a sincere and definitive No Way Honey!

You guys are taking the wrong read on this. The fact that they won't commit to White to start if healthy is a sign that the front office and Saleh have decided it will be Wilson no matter what. The front office, the coaching staff,  the players and the hot dog vendor all know White gives them a better chance to win but it's not about winning. They're putting 1 player ahead of everyone else and that player is terrible.

they need time to talk to the PR office to figure out what BS there going to tell us when White is cleared to play as why he isnt playing.

do they say they still want to give White an extra week of rest, or that Zach played well enough to get another game. either way its probably Zach

Flacco gives us the best chance of winning on Thursday

MW does, but Flacco is probably the next best option

Jags D has a measly 26 sacks on the season

Not exacty a ferocious pass rush to contend with

The Jets need good decision-making, sustained drives and to not the turn the football over

Keep the Jags offense off the field as much as possible

If white is cleared he will play but i doubt he gets cleared.  In any case other parts of the team have been as big of an issue as the much talked about QBs down the stretch.  We love to make it all about the QBs but both QBs overall have played well enough the last three weeks to get wins, other parts of the team have failed.

Saleh will play whoever give the team the best chance to win. More embarrassing missing the playoffs with 7-4 record just three weeks ago.

I think most realized playoffs were gonna be tough once Breece & AVT went down. It’s just taken longer for that reality to come into focus. We’re not a very good team right now. We’re 2-5 since the Denver debacle.

Jets should still have at least 10 wins at this point. They've just simply shot themselves in the foot.

meh we won a few games we had no business winning with Flacco and didn't deserve to win yesterday....we are a borderline playoff team not serious contenders.

I think White is 100% playing on Thursday.  He was real close to going yesterday.

They could not find a doctor on the planet to give White a medical clearance 3 days ago. He was not close. And unfortunately it's probably closer to a 20% he is active, let alone starts.

The best we can hope for is that the Jets somehow steal a win on Thursday night and we give MFW another 10 days to heal before Seattle.

gamesmanship 100%.

i hope im wrong but from what i hear from some people " one Jets drive " sounds happy with what Zach did yesterday. he did what we all wanted to see. sure he has some things to clear up "they say" but there is a lot of hope he can be the guy.

god help us.

with that said if White is 1,000 % ready he will not start another game for the Jets. unless Zach has a NE bad game and there is a chance for the playoffs.  its live or die with Zach.

Zach Wilson DID NOT Lose the Jets the Game!

@Beerfish said it above in his own words... it is simply preposterous to lay this defeat on Wilson but won't name names on blow coverages that give up 50 Yard TDs right after Wilson played well enough to lead the Jets on a go-ahead TD with under 4 minutes to go!

Did he miss some easy throws, yea but that didn't cost them the game....

Cmon dude. You’ve been around too long for this take. It was entirely on Zach Wilson. Players will make plays, and Zach Wilson didn’t make enough.

I agree.

You can point out that Zach Wilson is not a franchise QB without pretending that he lost the game for the Jets yesterday. He handed our defense a 4 point lead with them only needing one stop to win the game and then got us a long GW FG attempt despite the head coach wasting 30 seconds in almost criminal fashion. The games Zach cost us were the two Pats games.
