PSA: How to "Ignore" a Poster

Just like your mother told you when you were a kid, the best and easiest way to deal with a person who you find offensive, ignorant, rude, annoying, negative, or purposely antagonizing is to "Ignore" them.

Fortunately, the JetNation forum software makes it simple and easy to ignore a poster.

1. Click on your account icon at the very top of the screen (should have your avatar picture)
2. In the Drop Down menu, you will see a link called "Ignored Users" - click on that link
3. Here you will see a list of all the posters you already ignore, if any.
   • If you wanted to, you could unignore any of them or change your ignore settings
4. At the top of the Ignored Users page, you will see "Add new user to ignore list"
   • In the the text box below that, start typing the username of the poster you want to ignore
   • The system will show users that match the text - so you don't have to know their exact or entire username, just the 1st few letters
   • You will then select the 4 ignore options: Posts. Messages, Mentions, or Signature (or some combination)
     • For example,  if someone has an offensive or annoying Signature, you can just choose to ignore that, or only ignore DMs if you want
   • Once you have done that, select "Add User"
5. You can always unignore them later or change the 4 ignore options
6. Even when a poster is on ignore, you will still see that they posted something and will have the option to read that post if you want - so unlike many forums, Ignore doesn't just erase someone from your feed entirely, which is probably good,

It's a quick and simple process that will probably save you a lot of frustration and make reading the forum much more enjoyable

Instead of ignore feature, we should have the ability to tag people w/ a "stupid" marker.  Then when a user gets say 15 or 20 of those, we shoot them.

Ignore is nice.

Personally, I find banning gives the same result and is far more satisfying.

Folks should be aware as well, that ignoring someone doesn't stop them from quoting you, neg-repping you, etc.

You just won't see it.

The end result is the person you're ignoring gets free reign to attack you, and everyone else will see it, but you won't.

May or may not mean anything to anyone, but I never liked that aspect of ignore.  It basically puts the ignored person in the seat of power, able to rip you and your posts apart, but leaving you defenseless to counter them.

For anyone other than a true forum troll, I don't recommend it tbqh.  But YMMV.

A wonderful example of double entendre that might be missed if Sarge was on your ignore list.

 All you have to do is hover over the user name and you can select the ignore button from there. It's very useful and a great way to get rid of posters you prefer not to read.
