It sounds like Tippmann simply isn't ready to start at this point. On New Orleans, he threw for over 4300 yards his first 12 years with Payton. He’s probably a pretty good coach. I expect a lot of improvement from Wilson and the Broncos this season. Tippman is younger, bigger, and more athletic than JMS but Schmitz was much more 'pro-ready' for this season. JMS higher floor, Tippman higher ceiling. One could ponder that bringing in the guy who was more ready would have been the play for this year with Rodgers coming in, but if JD felt JMS was very good, but Tippman had a chance to be great a year or two later, I can get behind it. I did actually really want him, but yes, give Tippmann a year to learn. I mean, best tandem of corners in the league in front of him, but if (when) he gets beat it’ll be magnified. Either way, should be a great addition to our secondary and defense.
