He's a safe pick at guard at least. There are people now saying he was playing injured this last season and that's why he didn't look as if he could play OT. A guard is not worth a top ten pick in most opinions. If he can play OT in the bigs, he's a good pick.

Agree with you on this. The key is whether he is projected to play OT.  Breno is at best average and Brick has definitely lost a couple of mph off his fastball.  If the plan is to start him at guard this year and then ease him into one of the tackle slots, it would make sense at 6.  It's tough to trade down too if he is at the top of your board since most people see the Giants and Rams (9-10) as OL needy.

Yup, if not us, it's them. Scherff/Collins back to back most likely. I wouldn't be disappointed with the pick regardless to be honest. He's a safe pick at a position of need. We obviously don't have the QB. A more effective way to improve QB play is to give him more time, rather than another WR.

I will pay a ton of attention at the post round 1 press conference to see if they think he's a ) the right guard of the future or b )  capable of pushing Giacomini out of the starting RT spot and eventually taking over for Brick at LT.

He didn't come for a visit, so I don't think it's happening. I'd guess Maccagnan probably views him as a guard and doesn't want to take a guard at 6, given he's brought a few other tackles in for visits.

That said, even as a guard he'd make an immediate impact on the team. Arguably moreso than anyone in the draft except maybe Cooper or a healthy Gurley. That's not the mentality I want them drafting with, I'd much prefer a more long-term view, but still.

Right tackles make less money than guards in the NFL. The only premium position on the OL in the NFL is left tackle. If Scherff doesn't project as a LT in the NFL, then he's 100% not worth a top ten pick in the NFL draft. Such a pick would make me sick.

saw a MOCK draft on the NFL Network or ESPN, cant remember and Sherff was the pick.

I've seen us taking, through various mocks this week, Scherff, Mariota, Gurley, Ray, Fowler, Dupree, Cooper, White, Gregory. Probably missing a few. I think Kiper's latest has us taking Scerff also. Only 5 more days to the real answer! By the way, Dr.Ted says hi.

Totally agree.  Scherff would be a bad pick at #6.  If we trade down and accumulate another pick or two and then pick him, that would be a different story.

Would absolutely love a trade down that resulted in Scherff, Devonte Parker & Jay Ajayi!

Would anyone be happy with that?

Talk about killer depth on offense

Decker, Marshall, Kerley, Parker

Ivory, Ridley, Powell, Ajayi

DBrick, Aboushi, Winters, Colon, Carpenter, Mangold, Freeman, Scherff,Breno.

Talk about protecting yourself from injuries.

actually, with suh and dareus in the division, this would be a pretty solid pick.     I would just love to trade to 8 and get him or whatever

Could easily happen...Falcons and Quinn May see a pass rusher they covet.Swap firsts and maybe throw in a 4th or 5th, and it' s done.Get back the Marshall pick.

If we went Scherff in the first, I would definitely be disappointed, but he is likely to be a starter in this league for the next decade.  It would be hard to kill the pick, especially if he moves over and replaces Brick someday.

CFF Overview: OT – Buyer Beware
Michael Renner | April 24, 2015

There is no perfect player coming out in the draft. Everyone has weaknesses that need to be addressed in the NFL. With data from every single play from every single college game we have the unique ability say how often those shortcomings actually affected a player’s performance. The following players’ issues caused them to grade well outside the elite tackles in one area or another and that is why we are wary of projecting them so highly to the next level.

Brandon Scherff, Iowa

After grading all of Scherff’s plays in 2014 and then reviewing those positives and negatives, we just couldn’t see Scherff as a tackle in the NFL. His problems on the edge in pass protection don’t look fixable and he’ll likely never be better than average in that respect. That’s not to say he can’t be a successful player at guard, he has more tools than any other interior offensive linemen in the draft, we just haven’t seen him play there yet. Investing a high pick in a non-premium position for a guy who hasn’t played there in years seems like far too risky a proposition.

Signature Stat: Allowed seven pressures in the Maryland game alone and 24 on the season.

If you trust the analysis of the PFF/CFF guys, Scherff does not project as a tackle either left side or right side....

I'm looking at him as a guard.  I have read he could be this years zach martin.  parcells signed mawae to block ted washington.  It wouldn't surprise me if the jets are looking at this kid asking one question, "can he handle suh?"

if they draft him, the answer was yes

then we will find out for real
