I'm watching a documentary on CBS about the intelligence community leading up to the attack. I really can't believe how its affecting me. 20 years on, and I'm crying like the day it happened. Its amazing how some things can get seared into your mind, your soul. I can only imagine its much like those who remember Pearl Harbor or the assassination of John F. Kennedy. 20 years. Simply unreal.

I taught my 5th grade students today about 9/11. I asked them prior to the lesson if they ever heard of it and not a single hand went up.

Crazy. What's 5th grade? 10 years old? I mean, it's understandable. Honestly I think I'm glad they aren't burdened with that knowledge, especially at that age. It just really underscores how something still so prescient can be so long ago. To put it in Jets terms, we're talking Herm Edwards' first year as HC. When I think of it that way, it seems so long ago. But in respect to that day, it seems like just a few fleeting moments ago.

20 Years ago right now, I was having a cold Guinness in Jameson Pub in Rockaway Beach NY, watching Monday Night Football.... I had received my Honorable Discharge from the Army less than a month prior. Contemplating what I was going to do for a career.

 

The last normal night in modern American history.

 

I went into the fire service 100 days later. 

 

Remember Fallen Brothers.

 

Never Forget.

I'm not making light of Anything that occurred that dreadful day but it also caused a young Robert Saleh to reevaluate his life & leave the world of finance & follow his dream of being a football coach... I Wish you a Long & Successful Career (Multiple Super Bowl Wins) as the Head Coach of The New York Jets Robert Saleh.

I would normally agree with this until you here what is being taught to 5th graders today and then you just shake your head

I used to work next door at 1 BT Plaza, worked at 60 Wall street at the time of the attacks. But I went into work late that day. So, didn't see the towers fall but saw the dust covered people etc. Took it personally then and still do.

Amazing that's its already 20 years.

With that said, I prefer not to relive that day every year, so TV's and radios and newsites are off today, too many folks making $$ on tragedy porn today IMO.

We did a day trip with the kids 8/21/2001 to Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty and the WTC, went to the observation deck.  On 9/13/2001 I stood in the plaza as the search for survivors was still going on. 

Still affects me...

It's remarkable that it's already been 20 years. But not a year goes by that it doesn't feel like yesterday. We all know where we were on that horrific day. I will always remember this day as if it happened just moments ago. My heart goes out to all those who's lives were lost, to the families who suffered, to the men and woman who continue to sacrifice their lives to this day, and to Americans to stay strong even in the darkest of times. To everyone who sacrificed everything and to those that left loved ones behind that day when they did nothing more then go to work. We miss you!! Never forget!!

Some still remember, but it's always shocking to me to see how many have forgotten or just don't care.

Think about where we were as a nation on September 12th of that year.  Think about the unity and comradery we felt with our friends, neighbors and co-workers.

Then look at what we've devolved to become.

So sad.

I watch this every year on 9/11.  This should be a much bigger story than it is.  Should be a movie.

For reasons I won't get into, 9/11 was the most traumatic day of my life by far, as it was fo so many others.

Sadly, we have largely already forgotten if not worse than forgotten.
