We can use next offseason to finish off the D.

nycdan
At first I was against this. But now thinking about what the Adams trade really brought us in terms of how much it softens the blow. The #2, our 2nd rounder, and maybe next year's highest 1st rounder wouldn't really sting. Particularly because If we get Watson, we don't really need the #2 pick and at #23 we can still land a really good player. Then we'd still have a 1st rounder next year. Maybe worst case we have to trade #2 and #23 and a day 2 pick next year. While some here are posing much bigger compensation, I don't think it will come to that. First of all, the only way they trade him is if they absolutely have to, and it looks like it's come to that. That lowers their leverage already. The combination of draft capital and cap hit pretty much limits the ideal suitors to NYJ, JAX and MIA. JAX isn't going to pass on Lawrence for Watson. MIA could and they are the only real threat. MIA's #3 and #18 are worth almost the same as our #2 and #23 and their 2nd rounder is only 2 picks lower than ours. So it really comes down to the QB decision for HOU. If they like Tua, then the deal with MIA makes a ton of sense. If they don't, then do they strongly prefer Fields over Wilson? If so, then the deal with the NYJ makes the most sense because at #3, they could miss out on Fields. They could land, Tua, Smith or Chase at #3 to try to replace Hopkins, and have some extra picks to help replenish the roster. That's not an awful deal for them considering where they are currently. Or, they could get Fields with the #2, and the same extra picks, which isn't quite as good if they prefer Tua over Fields. Of course, if they like Darnold as much as Tua, then we'd be back in front on that basis and with HOU, who knows what the hell they're thinking. The sad irony is that if they didn't make the idiotic trade to get Tunsil, MIA wouldn't even be in position to challenge for the Watson trade. MIA could end up having traded Tunsil and one first round pick (Tua) for Watson. That's just sad.

While we're at it, we should come up with a scenario that gets Watson to the Patriots. Maybe for a 2nd round pick and a bag of deflated footballs NE doesn't need anymore. People have been so caught up in the rush of young AFC QBs the last few years, that they seem to have forgotten how insanely good Rodgers is. Probably the MVP this year and probably the most accurate passer in NFL history. If he had been on a team with better talent, he would have a lot more jewelry. Sammybighead
Everyone wanted to tank for Trevor. That didn’t work out but the premise still stands. Until you have one, you need to exhaust every avenue to get a franchise QB. Getting Watson is arguably a better scenario. Yes you give up more draft capital but you already know he’s a franchise QB who’s battle tested. I’d give up whatever to get him. I don’t think Houston trades him under any scenario.
