What I’d like to know is how so many on here live in different parts of the country and are NY Jets fans. Sure, some grew up in NY and moved away but what about those who didn’t. What kind of person who wasn’t raised in NY would choose to be a Jets fan?  Now that’s some strange sh*t right there. ?

It was 1979 and I was a 9 year old boy in the backwoods of rural Maine. I stayed up past my bedtime on a monday night to watch football. It was the Jets at the Seahawks, and the Jets got smoked. But... they kept fighting, so I picked them as my team.

Did I mention I was a stupid 9 year old kid?

I always like rooting for underdogs. Hardly any bigger underdogs than the NYJ. Also, I really like NYC. The Jets were a pretty natural choice for me. Plus, when I chose them it was during the era of the New York Sack Exchange. It looked like the Jets were getting better. Ha!

It's also 50/50 if he castrated himself as well.  Interesting fella.

That definitely takes commitment.  And a steady hand.  And did I mention gauze.  Lots of gauze.

Because he castrated himself. Perfect choice for a Jets fan.

This was a true RLLOL for me, LIL.   Well done.   That one goes into the JN time capsule.

Mine is in honor of my favorite all time "punk/reggae/rock and roll" band of all time.

I saw them opening night at the infamous Bond's Disco shows.   Crowd was jammed to the rafters watching The Clash firing on all cylinders.  Joe Strummer was incredible.

Lack of forethought-

David Harris was in his second year and was the hardest hitter I’d ever seen and thought he’d last decade.  He did but I’ve outlasted him.

actually changed my username from Blair Thomas to David Harris ?

The name holds up. One of our best second rounders ever.

I still remember like yesterday his immediate emergence as a Rookie after Jonathan Vilma went down.

During the next two games without Vilma?

David Harris vs. Buffalo and Washington during back to back games he recorded 41 tackles. 17 vs. Buffalo and 24 vs. Washington. Nuts.

And that's when the nickname of Hitman was created and a star was born.

Why isn't David Harris (as only a ROOKIE) being credited with the most All-Time solo tackles during a single game within NFL history?

Because he clearly recorded 24 combined tackles and 20 SOLO TACKLES vs. Washington?

Man, I wish I could have been there, but at that time I was a teenager in TN and barely even knew that they existed. I only got to see them once...in 1984 after Mick had been kicked out. Still was great to see Strummer and Simo. Youtube has been a godsend. Wasn't the place called Bond's Casino?

Joe Strummer remains my favorite lyricist and frontman. His was the first "celebrity" death that bothered me.

No.  100% it was Bond's Disco.  It was once a clothing store my parents took me to as a kid.

Yeah, YouTube is a veritable treasure trove of stuff from bands many of us have never seen before.

Kudos on digging The Clash.  I play Give 'Em Enough Rope all the time.

EDIT:  Just went to look and it does say Bond"s International Casino.  That's not how I recall it.  Let me go look a bit further.

I'm just kidding with you man I still believe Sam would've become really good if not for his atrocious WRs/RBs/TE and especially O-Lineman-Gase (Maccagnan ruined him as a Jet).

Throughout the 1990's during Football seasons on Saturdays as a pregame ritual for Sundays games my Grandfather would dust off old VCR games that he had recorded throughout the entire 60's and every season my Grandpa would watch those games with both me and my older brother.

At 13 years old during our 1998-1999 season (my favorite Football year of All-Time) it finally happened we had finally made it to his favorite 1968-1969 Championship season and that's when I fell in love with his throwback players on Defense Gerry Philbin, Paul Rochester, John Elliott, Verlon Biggs, Johnny Sample, Ralph Baker, Randy Beverly, Jim Hudson, Cornell Gordon and Al Atkinson but Larry Grantham was his favorite player of All-Time and throughout our 1968-1969 season during our 1998-1999 run he always preached to both me and my older brother that 'DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS'.

Thinking back my favorite game was beating the powerhouse Oakland Raiders in Queens @ Shea Stadium during the AFC (AFL) Championship Game who had beat us earlier in the season imo that game was more intense than our SB win over Baltimore and he was right all along because against Johnny Unitas our legendary Jets Defense held his Colts to only 7 points).

And that's how I came up with the username of DWC in loving memory of my Football hero who introduced me to the game of Football happy birthday pops

??? 8-21-1937 ???

(Carl Lawson's injury has been stressful on our entire fan base so i wanted to create a lighthearted topic of discussion in order to learn more about the meaning behind all of our usernames).

I hate too nit pick but we didn’t have vcr’s in the 60’s. How did he have game recordings?

Funny,  I remember it the way you do.  Converted clothing store referred to Bonds Disco.  Tickets were oversold for the original engagement and the Clash did lilke three weeks of shows so everyone who had a ticket could go.  WIsh I would have gone, but that was probably about a year or two before I discovered the only band that mattered.

Cool story except the earliest VCR for home use wasnt available until the mid 70's.

My user name pays homage to Canadian Henri Kleckineau inventor of the round type hockey puck.
