1972 Namath had 15 completions against Baltimore for 496 yards and 6 TD's.  Including an 80 yard completion to Caster and a 65 yarder to Eddie Bell.

FYI 15 into 496 is 33.067 per completion.   Namath had a much better OL.  He couldn't get outside the pocket.  He took deep drops and waited.

Zach has great mobility, a quick release and a great arm.  He's Namath in college at the pro level.   Not as talented as Namath was in College but pretty close.

this is the exact game I was thinking of...Johnny U threw for nearly 400 as well that day

Not to diminish Wilson, but sure we have.

Namath could do it.

And Ken O'Brien could also do it.

While we didn't win any titles, and he was (as our friend Savage loved to point out,) a "statue who never got a rushing TD", lol, I think some folks consistently sleep on the passing talent (incd. some epic bombs) and ability possessed by O'Brien.  Watching Marino and O'Brian run up the score is what made alot of us Jets Fans in that era.

I wish they would bring back these jerseys or at least an iteration of them

Love those helmets

Chad Pennington once finished best in the league at deep passing. Think it was 2004, the year he hurt his shoulder.

His arm strength hurt him in other ways but he actually threw a nice deep ball. That pass to Moss in San Diego was perfection.

He has made a few of these throws, on the run and perfectly placed the  this year including one to Crowder earlier in the game and one to elijah moore week 1 (that was dropped/defended).

I don't remember seeing any Jets QB able to make that type play/throw.

Kid's got a rocket launcher...serious question when was the last time a Jets QB completed 2 50 yarders in a game? Joe Willie?

Gotta be O'Brien.. I'm sure it's been sooner but damn if it doesn't feel like it's been since the O'Brien to Walker/Jones/Toon days.

I remember that game time ran out as he hit Wes Walker.

It's not the throw alone, it's that it was on the run that made it special. Vinny had a rifle but moved like an old man when he was with the Jets. He certainly wasn't running and throwing a ball 50 yards like Wilson can.

The question wasn't  who can make a throw like that on the run, I it was who can make a throw that long accurately.  That said VT had at least as much arm talent as Zack, probably more. The guy had a cannon for an arm.

LaFleur needs to design plays to Zach's strengths. That's what it comes down to. I think they're trying to teach him from the ground up to be a statuesque, Testaverde, Flacco type. That is just not this kid's game.

Let him be who he is.

The identity of this team is starting to show its face and take shape.

Gritty... bare knuckle brawlers who take chances. I like it!

I like it a lot!

That is the problem I have with hiring Saleh (or any DC). Saleh, from his press conferences, seems uneasy with those plays but that is what makes Wilson special. Wilson from the pocket is a bottom 10 QB at this point of his career, but on the run he is a top 10 QB.

I agree 100pct that Lafleur needs to design these types of plays instead of just hoping they come naturally when Van Roten and Mcgovern decide to have a cup tea together instead of blocking.

Well said. However it's always easier to give advice when you're looking into somebody else's snow globe. It's a lot tougher when you're swimming in your own.

But I definitely agree with you. They need to design plays to showcase his skills. The dude looks like he's 12 years old but he can rip that ball down the field like it's nothing. We haven't had a quarterback that can throw the ball like that in my lifetime.
