Here are the two bounce-back TDs that Zach threw after the pick to DJ Reed.  Two very good throws.  Encouraging to see Zach attack the middle of the field.  You saw last year in TC and early in the year (pre injury) that he was more hesitant to throw into those lanes (note: that is very typical for a rookies).  Towards the end of the season, you saw him do that far more effectively and often, which was very evident on film, particularly the TB game. 

Good stuff.

When he came back from the injury he was much better against both of those.  You saw this in the Tampa Bay game in particular.  There was an excellent breakdown posted here months ago, but if you didn’t see it, here is the link:

The title is a little bit of hyperbole for clickbait purposes, but the film breakdown is awesome.  Long story short, don’t sell Wilson short on the instincts side of things.  He definitely has a feel.  His 2nd half growth is pretty night and day when you watch the tape.  I’m not saying that this means he’s going to be a bonafide star, but there’s real reason for optimism around the kid.

My honest opinion is that he was more raw than people thought he was and should have sat.  Especially when you factor in that the Shanahan offense is incredibly complex, even for veterans, and I think a lot of Wilson’s bad habits and tendencies were born because he was basically drowning in the speed of the game and the offense.  I also think losing coach Knapp was gigantic, as the Jets didn’t really have that experienced shoulder for him to lean on when it all went downhill real fast.  That being said, Zach seemed to have come out of it ok and there’s good reason to believe that he will come out a better player for going through those early struggles.  This doesn’t strike me as a “2019 & 2020 Darnold” situation, where he pressed so hard that there was no coming back from it.  It definitely helps that this offensive coaching staff is light years ahead of that one.

Lastly, I don’t really agree with the notion that he is struggling with those areas in camp.  The INT he threw today, which I posted above, was not under pressure.  The only other two I’ve read about were miscommunications between him and the WRs.  Today was, no doubt, his “worst” day and he still went 5-11, while throwing two TDs and a pick, as per our new beat reporter.  It’s also day 4 and the pads haven’t even come on yet.  Let’s nestle for now, lol.

Side note: I can’t believe I fell into the “tracking TC stats” trap again, lmfao.  I promised myself this year would be different ?.

Mike Sando was on a podcast this week talking about his QB list and had a very interesting take on Jimmy G and this offense.  He said a big part of the reason Jimmy was so good in shanahan's offense is his agressiveness in attacking the middle of the field and how important that is off play action.  He thought it would be a struggle for Tua since he doesnt have the zip to fit the ball into tight windows over the middle of the field.  Zach definitely does have that arm talent so Im really looking forward to seeing him attack the middle of the field with Garret and Moore and our TEs.

As for the pressure thing - I havent watched the washington film but Id have to imagine JD and LaFleur were able to see something that maybe us fans didnt as if it was that clear that he cant handle pressure Id guess he wouldnt have been considered a top 5 pick.
