Jets trade with Raiders for G Kelechi Osemele

Walterfootball mentioned he had knee problems last year and that he may have mailed it in a bit instead of playing hurt once the raiders season went so poorly.

It appears that his weightloss in the video would back that up as he was probably looking to put less stress on his knees and ankles going from 330 to 297.  Ideally he can play right around 300 and be more athletic in our inside zone system.

Also, if I'm reading over the cap correctly, he has no guaranteed money left, so if he struggles or has more knee problems we can let him go after 2019 with no dead money.

Great trade to me, also allows us more flexibility in the draft (would love to spend FA money on barr and flowers, and trade down for Bradbury to play center, but thats unlikely)

do ya blame him?

No problem if it's Coleman.  Would prefer Bell though.

Seriously it was a great trade for the Jets.   Mckenize made all the contracts like Osemele. Basically pay as you go, and the team could cut you at anytime with zero cap hit.   ( that part I'm going to miss Mckenize the most).

I 1000% do not.  That team was a mess, and with $20 million non-guaranteed, it was a smart move by him to limit wear and tear on his body as much as possible.  I also love seeing him lose 30 lbs, shows he cares about still being good and fixing any lingering issues.

Solid trade, fills our need at OG without having to waste time and resources during FA on Saffold. Go out and get either Morse or Paradis (preferably Paradis) and give me a RB (Bell please) and I'm content on the offensive side of the ball in FA.

Nice trade on a couple of fronts:

- You fill the LG spot before free agency

- By making the trade you save $$$.  Because a free agent
guard would command at least 4 years, $40 million and probably
$17-$20 million guaranteed.  You basically get Osemele on a 2
year $20 million contract BUT none of it is guaranteed

- Smart move by Maccagnan to offer OAK a #5 before they cut
Osemele.  Because if he was on the market he would have to bid
against other teams which would drive his price up

Good start to the free agency period hopefully Maccagnan can
keep it up

So the Jets essentially moved back from Round 5 to Round 6 (no net loss of a pick) for Osemele?  Great move in my opinion.  The only real risk the Jets have taken is that if he doesn't return to close to his 2016 form then they're overpaying the guy.  That's a very reasonable risk.  If he turns out to be very good but not great then this was easily worth it and it's an upgrade.

Takes the pressure off the Jets to land a guy like Saffold.  I'd be All-In on Paradis and Leveon Bell as the two big FA moves on offense now.   Add any one of Barr, Trey Flowers, Justin Houston and the Jets have checked the Edge Rusher box heading into the Draft, giving themselves big flexibility at #3.

Yup.  Last year, Andrew Norwell was top guard in FA and he got 5 years / $66Mil.  Osemele at $10 mil will look like a bargain after FA contracts are doled out this week.

On the open market with talented OL being scarce. I'd say Saffold gets close to Norwell's deal, wouldn't be shocked if he surpassed it either. This is a good trade that eliminates our need prior to FA. Just hope KO returns to 2016, 2017 form and is healthy.

According to ESPN it's a swap of late round picks.  Since we don't have a 6th rounder this year that leaves 5th or 7th round.  If it's our fifth for their sixth, that's not too bad.  In any event, it's nothing major, that's for sure.  Great get, under contract for two more years, 10 million/year, probably what it would have cost for Saffold.  29 years old, former pro bowler, track record of good health, and huge. Bird in the hand, is better than a bidding war.

Looks like Bell is going to the Ravens. Him and Jackson together? Whoo boy, Instant offense.

Link? I’d be very surprised if he went to Baltimore to play in a gimmick offense that will get stomped out next year

Not that PFF is gospel or anything but they had him graded as their 61st best guard last season out of 77, 5 spots ahead of Vlad Ducasse lol ... anyone know why that is ? Or is everyone excited just assuming this is a good young player

he was injured last season

Yeah but I didn’t know he came with a 10m cap charge

with zero guaranteed money and 11.7m next year if they choose.  Nice. Can easily afford the 10m this season and have lots of time to decide what to do with Osemele for 2020 and beyond.

Good deal, don;t stop there mac, we need a real center and even look at a tackle as well.

Late round picks for salary heavy players that aren’t wanted anymore is a solid strategy. I’ve been pounding the table for moves like this and we should make more. We have the cap and can absorb these contracts for quality players that aren’t in their team’s plans.

Have to imagine the salary was the motivation for Oakland here after forking over $50M to Brown.  They relieve themselves of about $11-12M each of the next 2 years.  They're probably willing to step back with an average OG in more like the $4-5M range.

They'll probably target a G with one of their first round picks.  Cody Ford???

The silence from the Snark Brigade is deafening.

Mac has a long ways to go and there is nothing wrong with praising his good moves. The amount of d*cksucking by everyone like he righted all of his wrongs with 1 trade is sickening. Have some respect for yourselves and team and hold our GM to a higher standard.

If this is the bar that fans set, that is pathetic. Just be doormats that don’t demand any accountability from a horrific GM performance over 4 years.

I hope Mac kills it and only wish for success for my team regardless of my feelings of him. Hopefully he can learn from his mistakes and get this team on track. It would take YEARS of successful moves (not just 1), until he deserves any credibility again. I’d gladly eat that crow if it happens. Just stop with the premature e-maculation and let him earn his credibility back.
