Raiders 6-4 and Bears 4-6

Bears problems have absolutely nothing to do with Khalil Mack.

The Raiders drafted rather well after the Ferrell pick (which was bizarre).  They stacked draft picks and in a very un-Jets like way, got some good players.  So they can now beat sub-500 teams and lose to over-500 teams (IND being the sole exception this year).  For them that was a huge step forward though.

The bears miscalculated the qb position.  Khalil was added as they thought they had their franchise qb for the next 10 years.

Now that it is apparent they dont, the mack deal looks awful for them.  GM Ryan Pace might pay for this with his job.

I think the Bears and Rams are in similar situations. Both teams went all in to win now with their young "franchise" QBs only to realize that their guys weren't very good.

Goff was great when the team was firing on all cylinders, now that the Oline isn't as good, Gurley is getting older and Cooks is out the offense looks pretty bad.

Fortunately we’ve had no such concerns

Did you hear Nance excusing Goff & McVay based on their injuries up front? While they were excusing them I'm still seeing Whitworth, their starting Center & LG, and I'm like, oh, poor babies. Why don't you trade us Whitworth for Chuma Edoga & we'll let you line the young man up at LT for you. NOT SORRY!

Jamal Adams is worth more than Khalil Mack IMO.  This does not have much to do with their value as players, but Adams is signed cheap (like sub-$1M) through 2020, with a team option for 2021.  Mack is signed through 2024, but he is getting around $17M per.  You  have to clear cap for Mack, not Adams.

Not quite sub 1 million, but relatively cheap as he is on his rookie deal.

Edit, his Base is sub 1 million, his roster bonus and pro rated bonus brings his number up.

Bingo!

You don't look for the high-priced (both in terms of $$ and Draft picks) game-changers, elite toys, etc. until you know you have the QB.  Khalil Mack would be the perfect guy for a team like KC or even the Texans after Watt's injury.   If the Bears had a QB Mack would make sense.  But now, not only are they not sure about their QB, they gave up two first round picks to get him.  It was like an "all in" move.

That is actually a very good point. Jamal Adams is the kind of difference making defender that a team in its Super Bowl window, but bumping against the salary cap, might find really valuable!

As I keep saying Kalil Mack shows up for primetime games. There were many on this board that wanted to give up the farm for him. Follow the Belichick way. It's sustainable. These types have a few great years and then fall off. These guys never outperform their second contract. And yes, Jamal Adams is more impactful this season than Kalil Mack.

Guys like Mack, Ramsey, and Adams are valuable. All Pro players that look like potential future hall of famers don’t become available in the prime of their careers often.

We are seeing it with CJ Moseley. These guys get hurt all the time, and it’s absolutely crippling when that player is taking that much of the cap.
