jgb
I've been pretty hard on the young lad but this is a pretty garbage situation to come back into after not playing competitive football for 9 months. I'd actually consider dressing him as a backup and giving him the 4th quarter or something to try to shake the rust off because we know we will be down like 4TDs at that point and the Steelers won't have their ears pinned back anymore. If he gets broken in half it doesn't satisfy the only goal really left this season... find out if he is or is not...

Fant has enough film from last year showing what he can do when healthy. What has he done to deserve to get paid starting LT money? One year of good play in a 5 year career does not get you starting LT money.

Brown, on the other hand, has not had injury problems. If Brown doesn't go down, Fant is on the right side with Max as his backup. While it is easy to blame this on JD, there was no expectation that Brown wasn't going to be serviceable. There is a certain amount of luck (good and bad) in every week; Jets have had some bad luck. Maybe it is medical staff, maybe it is training, IDK JD had a plan, drafted our future RT in the 3rd day of the draft and then signed the best possible LT replacement. Short of drafting OTs every year, not sure what else he could do. Of course, he is now forced to draft LT and maybe C next year (or spend even more cap on veterans) when we really need youth and speed at LB and S.
Irish Jet
Also if Fant really was playing through an injury he’s a fool. Should have gone to the Zach Wilson/Mac Jones school of economics. Guy has cost himself millions. 1

He was not a guaranteed starter here back in March. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. If Brown were healthy, this would not be an issue. I agree that they needed to sign another tackle in the offseason, but if Brown were playing and with Mitchell exceeding expectations they would have been fine. 1

He is long past the time in which a tackle should start to decline. He's defied the odds to this point but it's absolutely guaranteed that at some point in the very near future that his play will drop off a cliff, if it hasn't already. Indeed Seahawks fans had already pointed out that he was dropping off. I don't know if you're serious about the second paragraph - You don't know what else he could do? Maybe not let his starting RT walk in free agency for a start? - No one is saying we had to waste a high pick of the draft. Even if you still like Becton you can prepare without him and let any contribution come as a welcome surprise. Brown wasn't even a reaction to Becton's injury - They were in for him before that - After ignoring the crimson red flags that were waving for over 12 months they seen him in person and realist, in August, that the guy they'd bet on can't be relied on. It's a shambles. No one is denying that Douglas had a plan, but his plan was garbage.

We had potential continuity and stability with Moses if nothing else and they chose unreliability with Becton. His contract isn't even all that much. You tell him he's the starter and tell Becton to get on his treadmill.

Like Jeremiah is saying, teams barely have one good OT, let alone two, let alone good backups. Last I looked, Max Mitchell, JDs fourth round pick is holding up pretty well. I’ll take that over Morgan Moses.
