Josina Anderson: Jets Potentially Considering Quarterbacks "who are not necessarily known to be available"

That did not sound like someone who knew what she was talking about. It felt very stab in the dark-ish, like she's using catchy language without knowing anything is looming.

Tannehill - most likely "unknown" IMO

I do think Kyler Murray will be available but I dont think we go for him due to attitude and injury.

Dak Prescott could be a name to monitor. I do get the feeling that Dallas feels they couldn't have supported him better and may be time to change it up. He's going to be 30 years old and if traded before June 1st would be $60m dead cap hit, new team would inherit:

'23 - $31m

'24 - $34m

'24 - void, can not tag

Those seem like the most likely candidates that aren't the commonly thrown around like Rodgers/Carr.

Kyler Murray would crumple under the NY media/fanbase scrutiny ... like a flower sprayed with acid.

Fields instead of Zach and are bitching about barely losing to Cincinnati or KC in order to go to the AFC championship. Maybe even bitching about LaFleur leaving to be a head coach Instead of this. whatever the hell this is.

You just won't let this wound go away will you? :)

When she first starts talking about the Jets, she makes it sound like they haven't even thought about who to go after yet.

She says something along the lines of their plan was to get together "towards the end of this week" and try to get on "the same page" with which direction they were going to go forward in the veteran QB market.

Name me one thing ALL these QBs have in common.

Answer: They'd ALL LOVE to land the Jets gig. Being protected by AVT and Becton while handing off to Breece Hall or throwing to the offensive rookie of the year? Wow...that's an amazing opportunity for any of these QBs to revive their careers. Oh, and all a turnover means is a 2 minute timeout on the sidelines while your top 5 defense gets you the ball right back.

They'd all love to get this job.

This feels like the jets forcing the packers/Rodgers to make a decision sooner rather than later.

If the Jets go out and get another QB the packers will lose a valuable trading partner.

Even though Rodgers can be traded anywhere the packers choose, his ace in the hole is him saying no, I'll just retire. Rodgers effectively has the same power Carr has, its just not official and the packers have more time. Rodgers simply has to say its the raiders or no one and that's the end of it. I'm all for Rodgers coming here but lots of people dont realize that just because someone is a free agent or someone is on the trade block, doesn't mean the jets can go and get them. Rodgers has all the power here. He'll dictate where he goes. Once that decision is made, the packers will negotiate with the team or teams of his choosing. If he doesn't want to come here, it wont matter if the jets can make the best offer or not.

Spot on. He has his own no trade clause - retirement and come back in 2024 and do the song and dance again.

There are good things about coming here.

I would not put the O Line as one of them.   AVT is excellent.  Becton has played less than 1 game in 2 years.  I don't know who the other guard or center is, or really the other tackle.

Ya, the Jets oline isn't top 5. But neither are the other 27 teams with a non-top 5 oline. Average olines are typical across the league.

Jets Potentially Considering Quarterbacks "who are not necessarily known to be available"

Translation:  Jets have no shot at Rodgers, can't compete for Carr, and likely don't want/won't pay a risk like Jimmy G.

So they're leaking to the media poop like this, to soften the blow for fans when the decision ultimately is "sign a Trubisky or similar level journeyman veteran loser" and "we believe in Zach Wilson, he will get every opportunity to start in 2023".

I will not believe we're signing/acquiring a top QB till that QB actually takes the field.

And no Tannehill, Minshew, Mayfield, et al. none of them are "top QB's".  I may like taking a risk shot on some of them more than others, and anyone is better than Wilson, but they're not a Rodgers, and they're not even a Carr or Cousins.

Prepare your disappointment-based rationalizations now.  The threads about how "Tannehill is still really elite, in the right system, with the right support" or "Wilson with a new O-Co can really exploit his elite talent" will be awesome.

The New York Jets, perhaps the logical front-runner if not the betting favorite to acquire Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, have closed the gap in the latest update by DraftKings Sportsbook. In new odds that were live on Saturday morning, the Las Vegas Raiders remain the favorite at -350. The Packers’ odds lengthened from +175 on Friday to +225. The Jets, who were practically a coin flip with the Packers a couple weeks ago, had fallen to +600 but closed to +450 in the update.

There’s players in that second tier of QBs that would evoke much different responses from fans.  Someone like Brissett would be a major meh.

Tannehill would get some ppl excited but ultimately he would be too much “Rodgers/Carr-Lite” if that makes sense….he’s a name but not a huge name.
Mayfield just seems broken, and I think his demeanor would be bad with our media….I was high on Mayfield coming out of college too.

Admittedly I’ve got a bit of a man crush (aka mancrust to some old JI members) on Minshew.  Young and still has potential, has put up great numbers on bad teams, and just has a toughness/moxie to him.

We could do worse than watch a year of Minshew Mania.

Seems unlikely. Joe Douglas does like everyone to develop their opinion independently and then meet to debate and present those opinions. It’s been 2 weeks since we hired Hackett. Have to imagine he is already done with his scouting of potential QBs. Saleh and FO have had 1 month.
