Bryce Huff: “I want to find a scheme that uses me as an every down player”

There needs to be another GM willing to give up enough to make it appealing. Every GM fears being “that guy” that got played by JD in a gross overpayment.

Too bad JD is too smart for his own good and that of the organization he runs.

so you're crediting Gregg Williams with the growth of Bryce Huff? I mean, really?

he had average growth like a lot of player do in 4 years but I believe he was decent player in Gregg William defense too.

Counter point - this guy was an UDFA who has earned a big payday pinning his ears back in the wide 9 because of our CS.

Saleh isn't a good HC but his defense has played well and they've coached up several players.

Agree with this.

Maybe he wants to be an every down player but he also hasn’t shown he can do that. And to be clear, he wants that because he wants to be paid like it.

Can you blame the guy?

the cavalier attitude that Douglas has seemingly had towards Huff is strange. The idea that these guys grow on trees is an interesting one.

They do grow on trees if you are Joe Douglas. Most gms who have a clue what they are doing, build a well balanced team. Clearly jets offense has been constantly 1 of the worst 3 offenses in NFL for Joe doughnuts tenure. D has been near the best. Any idiot knows the 1st round pick last yr had to go offense. But if you are 1 of the worst gms in the NFL, only then is your pick the position you are already deepest at.

Pretty damning, you have to wonder how many other guys feel this way?  We know Quinnen was upset w/ being pulled last year.

Now that said, Huff is feeling himself, understandably but the data says he's not good vs. the run.  The Jets gave him 141 snaps of 1st down this year (22 last year).  When Huff is the line-up on a run,  the Jets give up 5.3 ypc, when on the sidelines during a run, that average drops to 3.6 ypc.

I understand Huff desires but I also understand why he was treated a specialist.

100%

he wants to get paid and he wont get as much as a guy who doesnt play every down. same as why Becton was crying about moving to RT. they dont get paid what LT do.

and your stats make sense with his snap counts. by comparison Huff and played 42% of the snaps and JJ 66%. and QW has played 69%. so its not the scheme, its hes not good against the rush.

and Bosa has played 79% and Garrett 81%. so when you look at it we really dont sit our guys as much as people think. its only 10% more than the rest of the league.

but lets not let stats get in the way of another "bash Saleh" thread.

Let's see how he does without this great Dline where everyone is focusing on Q. I think Huff is the type of player that needs that dominant inside presence so they don't just key on him and his speed. If he's doubled all the time I'm not sure how successful he will be. We'll see. I would trade him for picks and pump up the offense more. Our D will be fine without him.

he played 30% of the snaps and got 2 sacks. did we even know he was playing when Williams was here?

I did but he was a rookie UDFA, you were expecting?  He also had another shot for a more real time role when Lawson went down that 1st year.  He did not do well and then ended up going down himself.

This was pretty obviously how it was all going to turn out from the moment they drafted McD.  In the end, it's simply not in his own best interests to play for a team that really has little reason to have him as a starter, given the investment they've made to numerous other players at the position.

He will have a better opportunity for both a starting job and pay elsewhere, and he knows it.

That's the craziest part.

There was never ANY intention of bringing him back, clearly. It's probably even the correct decision, given the current roster makeup.

But what was the point of not trading him? You're going to get more back for a pass rusher in a trade to a contender than any draft pick comp credit he'll ever be worth.

Hopefully this is just a negotiation tactic but damn this team if they let Huff go for anything less than a 1st rd pick.

No reason why JJ, Hufff and McDonald cant be on the field at the same time. Figure it out.
