Deuces! Staley Turns Down Jets to Join Browns as RB Coach

Robert Saleh and the Jets reportedly met with former NFL running back Duce Staley in an attempt to lure him to Florham Park as their running backs coach but Staley wasn’t interested.

Jets looked into hiring Duce Staley to replace Embree but sounds like he’ll be going to the Browns. https://t.co/xeCGYY4HMY

He opted instead to join the Cleveland Browns in the same role which leaves the Jets without a running backs coach following the departure of Taylor Embree.

Browns situation more stable than ours, so not necessarily a surprise.

They need to add a new RB coach obviously. QB coach Rob Calabrese is in limbo. They are looking into adding/replacing a few assistant/specialty roles and at least someone with an OL background. There’s also a chance they reorganize the coaching staff by reassigning existing coaches into different roles, which was something they looked into last year

I would never take an assistant coach job with the Jets right now. We all know that next year the entire staff is going to be wiped out.

If the Jets can win 6 or 7 games next year, perhaps Woody in late December, can let us know that the coaching staff will be back in 2025 in its entirety.

well this should end all the crying about firing this coach or that coach. witht he HC and GM on there last year of there contracts nobody is coming here.

Yup.  Add in a team heavily lacking in talent that is unlikely to make the playoffs and you’re going to have some real problems is recruiting.

This smacks of Saleh wanting to squeeze a year of paychecks out of Woody for his otherwise unemployable coaching pals before they all get fired in twelve months The idea that adding more (currently) unemployed voices to the offensive staff without firing anyone is laughable. Really speaks to the absence of an adult in the room that could see through this type of bullsh*t

The one that I keep hearing from some people is adding Luke Getsy to be QB coach and reassigning Downing to a senior offensive assistant role.  I have heard several times from people they want to add at least 1-2 coaches to the offensive side of the ball.

Hymie Elhai and the lawyers are running the team. It’s similar to what’s happening in Philly, but Roseman at least has a general idea of what to do.

i dont think its the talent but its being lame ducks and they could all be out of a job next year.

except for Saleh cause he is coming back, people want to fire coaches like Carter. ok fine but whos replacing him?

remember how we got into this mess? we had to fire MILF. ok fine then what? well then the next OC has to have  experience cause nobody here wanted a 1st time OC again. ok fine. well what we seen were guys that none of us were thrilled about.

so we need to stop with this, fire this guy and get the best OL coach to come here. Staley just showed us there not coming here. now maybe next year if they get extensions that will change.

and were not heavily lacking in talent.

Maybe Dalvin Cook can get a couple of million more coaching the backs after he gets his ring and retires this year. How hard could it be to tell someone to run into a brick wall 20 some odd times a game !

I do understand what you’re saying but where we differ is it’s not just that Saleh is a lame duck.  It’s he’s a lame duck that’s almost certain to be fired after this year.  If the team was talented people would be more likely to take the job because Saleh might get renewed - but outside of Jet Nation no one believes the Jets are going to be good next year.

we just had our 4th All Rookie in the past 3 years. a really good defense. were not as bad as you think.

you see when the predictions come out in the summer they will all have us making the playoffs because of Rodgers.

7 wins with the worst QB room you got to believe we can get to 10 wins with Rodgers.

the problem i think is with Woody. there is a possibility that even with the playoffs if we go one and out he might still fire everyone. you just dont know with will happen to guys with no contracts after this year.
