jNYC1
Liked JFM - If money was no issue - prefer JFM and Huff over Reddick and Clemons. Factoring in money/resource allocation, Reddick and Clemons wins. Overall slight down grade in run defense. Huge reduction in expense/resource allocation at edge. Always a little frustrated that many fans considered JFM a jag and vastly overpaid. The Jets got good value from a waiver wire pickup over the course of his time with the Jets. Excellent run defender and generated strong pressure. Slight step back in performance last year but was reportedly playing beat up. He was very underpaid when we picked him up and overpaid when he let him go - which is a wash for me, and just good business by the Jets. JFM's still a top 25 edge in the NFL - with some of his impact not showing up on the stat sheet.

JD has been pretty good at finding guys for cheap and squeezing some production out of them. Not worried about the DL personally.

It's debatable whether a guy like Solomon Thomas or Javon Kinlaw is a long term answer there, and I think JD and Saleh likely could have drafted a player to make an impact both now and in the future in rounds 4 or 5 today. Rangers9
Mostly about salary and Jets feel they have replacements on the roster. He had good numbers on sacks but was called on a lot of penalties too. Return a future future 6th rounder is not much but trading guys to get rid of salary is why so little return.
Beerfish
28 minutes ago, extmenace said: It’s a football move. Every year on every team average starters get signed, some get cut, some get traded. With the other players on the roster, the cap space was worth more than his production. Nothing to see here… People that suggested he be turfed long ago were shouted down and abused becasue JFM was the most underrated player for the last 5 years and as so damn good and important. Now he is dumped for nothing as he should have been long ago and it is, oh turn the page, football move etc. 1

There are always going to be those kind of guys available. The rotational approach this team deploys seems to give these fringe guys a much better chance at being productive. It has a lot more to do with the system than anything else. If the system is in place, finding the guys shouldn’t be an issue.

kdels62
This is the worst thing the Jets have done all week. Trading a legit starter in this league for peanuts is wild. I understand it but I hate it.

Our first two picks this year will replace two of his gems (Becton and Moore) we had to dump the overall #2 pick for peanuts, and now we’re eating $8 mil to dump this stupid contract. I’m not even going to mention his W-L record. 1 1

He will be a loss, he was over paid by 15/20%. The issue is JD’s miss management of the Cap.

Larz
Broncos To Acquire DL John Franklin-Myers From Jets April 27th, 2024 at 7:30pm CST • By Sam Robinson 7:30pm: When speaking about the trade during his post-draft press conference, Jets general manager Joe Douglas confirmed (via Brian Costello of the New York Post) the Reddick acquisition necessitated moving on from Franklin-Meyers. Keeping both players in the fold through 2024 would have been a tall order in terms of cap commitments, a factor which no doubt affected the low price paid by the Broncos to acquire him.
