TheNuuFaaolaExperience
I'm over it already. He isn't a good value at his current contract and that is evident by the lack of trade partners.

UntouchableCrew
He was overpaid relative to recent performance but they dumped him for basically nothing. I dunno about that.

Seems mostly like a desperate attempt to force last year's pick not to look as awful as it actually was. he was gonna be cut, it was basically getting anything at all back to dump the salary
slimjasi
Salary dump. They clearly believe in Clemons/McDonald he was a good player for us, but hella overpaid I wish him well
slats
2 minutes ago, neckdemon said: he was gonna be cut, it was basically getting anything at all back to dump the salary He had $3M left in guaranteed money, so with the trade the Jets save that on top of what they would’ve saved had they just cut him. Moving on from JFM was probably in their plans when they made the McDonald pick. So now they’ve essentially swapped out JFM and Huff for Reddick and McDonald, and saved a bunch of money in the process (before they extend Reddick, maybe).
KRL
Another aspect of this trade is Douglas has quite a few players coming up with potential extensions. Is he preparing to learn from the Huff situation and lock up players early? - Gardner - Wilson - Carter - Reed - Johnson - Hall

Popular Post The Crusher
Nothing more than a TY for taking Zach off our hands. Wow, has any team taken a bigger beating for drafting a terrible QB? Three years of purgatory, paying 100+ million for an old guy to replace him and a pretty solid D lineman? Thank you Joe Douglas, TY?

There’s really no purpose to trading him unless we’re going to repurpose the cap space. So JD definitely has something up his sleeve - he didn’t do this for fun
Sperm Edwards
18 minutes ago, neckdemon said: he was gonna be cut, it was basically getting anything at all back to dump the salary Took until the middle of page 2 for someone to state the obvious: they were going to cut him anyway. They held onto him this long to see what's the most they could get for him. Just like with Zach. It seems clear to me that they previously approached him about a pay cut, which is when he started xtwittering about his value some weeks back (when they acquired Reddick), and it's quite clear he refused. Not so easy to get someone to take him at that pay, and the only way it was happening is to leave JFM still cuttable this year (by his new team). Trading away such a low-value pick like a 6th rounder two years from now means they can put a squeeze on him & still release him in late August if he refuses a pay cut with them, too. Possible Denver just pays it, but they're still in a position to release him at the end of August, and there won't be a line of teams pushing each other out of the way to pay JFM $14-15MM each of the upcoming two seasons. Saves $14MM, which just wasn't necessary with their current wealth of DL talent. ****edit: looks like they already got him to take a pay cut. Again, no way anyone was keeping him at that rate, but that's the rate he was due while the Jets were trying to trade him.

JFM was being cut because he wouldnt take a paycut.

It’s a football move. Every year on every team average starters get signed, some get cut, some get traded. With the other players on the roster, the cap space was worth more than his production. Nothing to see here…
