Joe Douglas was not in the room during Salehs firing

Definitely one of the more significant details.

Seems Woody is really taking the reins here which is hilarious. I think this makes trading for Adams or working anything out with Reddick less likely. Douglas would for sure do it now because he has nothing left to lose but Woody may be realising that he's been sold a bill of goods and is getting a head start on the cleanout early.

I think he’s always had the reins with built in plausible deniability. Douglas being a ghost is intentional.

I assume the Jets President and outside advisors are the others at the top of the chain.

I think the opposite. Davante is in the bag and Woody will show the world how hard he is trying to win. LOL

Yeah Adams would help but I’m not giving up a second rounder got a rental. We have weapons we just need a plan, accountability, and execution

If they dont make the playoffs JD can hit the road too. He's made a ton of mistakes as well, drafting Zach Wilson and then keeping him as a backup last year cost us a chance to salvage the season

And it was a mistake having Saleh here in 2024 to start the season. Like what did they think would happen...Saleh suddenly will have them prepared to start games? Cut back on penalties...that he'd realize you kick the FG there at Minnesota?

Surprise surprise Saleh stayed stupid

The smartest thing JD did was get a multi year deal before agreeing to take Jets GM job. Btw you don't hear much from previous 2 Jets GMs. I guess they have non disclosure agreements.

And they suck so no one cares what they think.

I hope this points to cleaning house at the end of the year. If this team goes 7-10 I want Rodgers and Douglas both gone. And all the incompetent coaches too obviously.

I think you can take that to the bank.

No playoffs means a new GM, HC, and QB.

I don’t think you make a HC change mid season as a head start to cleaning house. You do it because you went all in on a 40 year old QB whose favorite WR target is now just a 3rd round pick away.

Pretty sure Woody was behind ZW and AR

I’m not sure about Wilson but there is no doubt in my mind about Rodgers. Woody wanted a big splash in Rodgers the same as he did with Favre.

I think the question is, what happens if the team has marginal success, say 10-7 with a first round exit? Are we giving Douglas another shot with a different HC? Do we retain Rodgers? And so on.

Imagine being fired by Woody Johnson for being incompetent.  The ultimate oxymoron.

Well said!

I dont want to argue about whether JD should be fired or not, there is another thread for that.  My point here is that if Woody and Chris Johnson got together with Hymie Elhai and fired Saleh without consulting with JD that is a huge organizational problem.

If they did consult JD and he was either so against the move or too close with Saleh to be in the room, that is also not a good sign for this organization.

I am a pro-JD guy but setting that aside, what type of GM/HC are we going to get if it turns out that Woody went over JD's head and he simply goes to another organization.  Do you think any competent NFL executive and coach would want to come here with that type of owner and no QB?

Woody is an incompetent person - he has ZERO accomplishments in his life except being born into a wealthy family.  Its very scary for all of us if he is making the calls on his own.

At this point, given the beating he has taken so far, I'd honestly be shocked if Rodgers comes back after this year, anyway. IMO, the ONLY way Rodgers comes back is if this team goes on a run and gets "close" to getting to a SB, which is, frankly, very unlikely.

As for 10-7 and a playoff birth being good enough for JD to get an extension? I think it would be, honestly. He would be sold as the guy who "broke the streak" of no playoffs.

What I'd really like to know is when/how they told JD they were going to fire Saleh?  Because...

On one hand, they're firing Saleh because they're not playing up to expectations, which could indicate they feel as though JD has done his job well and it's Saleh's fault the team sucks.

On the other, leaving JD out feels intentional as to send a message to him as well.  He hired Saleh, they fired Saleh and JD wasnt the one to deliver the news?  That feels like a, if Ulbrich doesnt turn it around, you're next message.

Leave it up to the Johnson's to do the right thing for once and show some balls, only to have an absolutely ass backward process about doing it.

It’s totally a “you’re next” message. Couple today with the Jets not extending Douglas’ contract in his final season. It’s bottom of the ninth with two outs for JD.

For his sake, I hope he takes notes from the Mets!

A quality OC in today's NFL is worth his weight in gold.

I mean look at Ben Johnson in Detroit.

The Jets had a competent OC in LaFleur and sacrificed him when things got to a point of no return between LaFleur and coddled Zach.

I disagree. LaFleur was too inexperienced for that position at the time and didn't know how to connect with the players and develop a QB - which were the most important aspects of the job with a young QB coming in.

I get it.

But if you look at the talent on this team, it's real.

McVay would be 5-0 (or at minimum 4-1) with this roster right now.  No doubt in my mind about that.

McVay beat the 9ers with no WRs and no Aaron Donald, a bunch of scrubs making league minimum outside the QB position.
