What happened to jets insider : MERGED

I don't feel badly, not one bit. sooth became a sanctimonious douche, and he ran the site that way. he sold out on the members there. first, to have cannizzaro write for the site, you weren't allowed to criticize him anymore.....and then for press passes you weren't even allowed to criticize the team or any players anymore, and now its the ultimate sell-out. it went from being a very good site to bullsh*t, imo. I was banned for criticizing lavernaeus coles....and then was asked to come back when he started bleeding members to this site. it was too late though, as once I came here I realized this site was just a much, much better site to come and bullsh*t about the team and get news. I told them to shove it. th eonly regret I had was not coming over to this site when they originals here left JI and started this site....but that all happened when I was a fairly new member at JI and I didn't know any better yet. sooth's bullsh*t was good for this site though, as its now really THE ONLY real jets site. the gang green site is long running, and has a fair amount of traffic, but is still not even close to the quality level of this site

you admit you only came here bc you were banned. i feel bad for people who were there for years and build relationships there, only to have rug yanked out by all of the things you note above. not their fault those things happened. you can not feel bad for JI/sooth but feel bad for the posters.

I don't know dude. I'm pretty new here. I can tell there are posters that are familiar with each other and whatnot. But I get plenty of interactions with people here.

It's also a law of averages. The more you post the more likely you'll get a response. And I don't think that's based on post count. I use the mobile version and can't see people's post counts. When I'm at work on the PC I see it and all I think is "That guy's been here for a while and didn't get banned". Lol.

Post counting is for children anyway.

Good post!

Any time man. You have a good site here.

It's also been my experience from 15 or so years of posting on Rangers message boards that any time premium or VIP pay stuff comes up the sites not only suffer, they're eradicated.

To be fair, I used to post over there back when ('06?) and they already had "premium" or "VIP" stuff and they kept rolling along pretty good for years.  Part of the reason I ended up over here was that the VIP sales pitch was annoying and made for posters that acted like they were better than everybody because they spent $55 on a membership. I'm sure some are here now, but thankfully I can't remember anybody anymore.

What did a membership get you?

I was on one Rangers site that kept repeating that you'd get up to 5 email accounts. Um...? Who needs more than 1 or 2 anyway?

I do have your phone number.   :)

How much do you think you could get for it?

I surely wouldn't know.  At the time, I think it was "premium content" which I think was chats/articles from Canizzaro.  I think they had some premium forum which made for strange interactions, kind of like the mod lounge over here.

Anytime you divide your members into classes is never a good idea-

In fairness to Sooth, I highly doubt he is behind sending the spam email on a regular basis. He did sell the addresses which is a gray area under the original terms of his site, but what is being done with them now is all under the control of scout.

Actually, there is nothing "gray" about it. Check the original terms of his site when you signed up you'd see the promis, in writing, to never provide your email to a third party under any circumstances with the promise to keep them private. He breached that agreement plain and simple. When I brought that up at Scout early on, I was permabanned immediately. Big surprise. The guy's a dikhead and a liar.

If thats true, I sure do wish there was some disgruntled litigious lawyer from JI who decided to make a thing of it.

I can understand (if not agree) with what Sean did, his site, his effort, etc., except for selling us all (emails/ip addys) out to Scout.

Oh, it's true. I remember thinking it at the time the transition was going down so I took a screen grab of the original terms and conditions of JI. I've got it somewhere on my hard drive in with tens of thousands of photographs, documents, mp3s, spreadsheets, computer games, ebooks, MKVs, and, of course, the 3 porn files.

fwiw, i'd be surprised if anyone looks at counts. All a high post count means is that you've developed relationships with people here which makes it more likely people will respond to you, even if it's only to break your balls

Exactly, i don't think anyone really even notices post counts, let alone uses that as a barometer to decide whether or not to reply to a post.

I had like 40,000 posts on JI.

I have like six posts here.

I don't think anyone reads me (or ignores me) because of my post count tbqh.

I would've wound up here sooner or later anyway. the censorship was really pissing me off. I had actually made my account here before I got banned, probably not long after they started the place. at the time I was fairly new to JI and didn't really know who was who and I had almost zero knowledge of the events and reasons that the original JN people left JI and made this site. I probably had a couple of posts here, but I was still predominantly posting at JI

I never bought in, but I do remember the pitch. It got you ads-free (which you can get for free with Chrome and adblock plus anyway), plus a "troll-free experience." Don't recall any other bennies.

Precisely why I am so bitter about it, and do everything I can to publicize the lies that I am aware of.

Well, I do distinctly recall at least one post on the old site where the poster outright stated they would never lower themselves by responding to a poster with fewer than some large number of posts. And I know I addressed comments and questions to large-count posters who never responded. And no, my questions and comments weren't impertinent.

My dad was banned, as was I. No love lost. But if max decided to sell to scout out of blue, it would be a kick in sack to all of us who have made real friendships and relationships here over 10 years. Thats all i meant. I agree th censorship was/is absurd. But i can understand sticking it out because of aforementioned friendships. Fortunately, they have a choice. Here.

I think on the whole e-mail address selling / third party stuff, the excuse (cop out) is that "JI is still JI, but within the Scout 'family' of sites". Not that I buy that for a second, but that's how it was positioned as far as I recall.

To be honest, i had no idea i was getting any e-mail from them as my GMail account automatically dumped it all in the Spam folder without me having to lift a finger. it's only after i read about it here that I even looked and saw it. So no big deal IMHO.

I think you are lucky with the quality of your spam filter. The one at my provider, Verizon, isn't so hot. So about 2 weeks after joining Scout, when the spam torrent started, I had to spend a lot of unpleasant time figuring out how to strengthen the filter. Unfortunately, I have found that strengthening the filter to the point where 100% of the spam disappears also causes wanted emails to get dumped into the spam folder. So now I have the chore of checking the spam folder every day for good emails that have been placed there, or the software will delete them. Thanks Scout.

Still can't figure out how to set things in Verizon so that a specific email address is OK despite falling under the spam filtering rules.

Sounds awful.  I was lucky enough to have join long enough that the same E-mail I used there I had before my divorce.  Purged a lot of crap when I got rid of that e-mail address.  LOL

I have 2 million posts here. And nobody responds to me. So we aren't your average site. :)

Bump.

Took a look today, call it morbid curiosity.

55 users online it said.

No new Off-Topics threads in well over a month, none that had even a single reply in over two months.  Same for Politics Threads.

Main Forum goes barely half-a-page before the most recent post is > week old.  Most Thread > 10 replies total, often much less.

A chunk of the threads (and posts) seem to be started/posted by Sooth himself.

I almost cannot believe how badly that change went.

Love or Hate JI, it was a busy, active, vibrant community.  Hundreds of hundreds of active posters and threads a day over multiple subforums.

Now it's a tomb.

I know the sentiment won't be shared, but I think it's truly sad what was done to that community.

Don't get me wrong, glad to be here at JN now, but nostalgia is sad today.

I used to lurk at JI whenever things stalled around here. Why did they have to make that move if everything was running correctly?

It was an easy decision to jump here years ago (Im pretty sure I was part of the original Exodus)..things got soooo sensitive over there. The name calling and mud slinging and banning became off-the-charts-it wasn't even pleasant to read threads anymore. But Warfish is right, it was great site with lots of great fans before the fireworks started wreckin things.

Actually, you could feel the same vicious vibe lately when some JIer join the conversation here. I hope they fall in line and stop with the thin skin and over-the-top reactionary tactics. I'm guessing they will cuz were having a kick-ass off-season and it's easy to feel good about the team these days.

I agree it is sad.  It is like we are Cheers and they just closed down Gary's Old Town Tavern. Things just aren't the same. :)

The Jets going 16 and 0 and winning the Super Bowl would only ease tensions slightly. We are Jets fans, are opinions are important. :)
