What can we do to improve the site?

Recommended Posts

The site defaults to a double-line when composing and I'd like that reconsidered please.

On a laptop browser, you have to hold the shift key to get a single line and on a mobile browser it's next to impossible to get a single line or a double line, it often defaults to a triple space.

So my biggest JN wish is that you choose the button that says "hitting Enter key adds 1 line between sentence breaks, not 2".

My second wish is that it is next to impossible to edit a post you are quoting on a notebook browser, and completely impossible on the mobile browser.

Sometimes we quote a post that has an image in it and we want to remove the image just to make it easier for people to read, sometimes it's not considerate to reply to a post with a photo along for the ride, so its nice to delete it.   Sometimes we decide not to quote the content at all and its impossible to remove it, I've broken the delete and backspace keys on my computer trying.

If there is something you can do when someone is replying to make the quoted text/image box more editable it would be great.

My third wish is to please fix Notifications.  A few things:

1.  Half of the time, I get no notification that I've received a response to a post I've made.  If I click the icon I see them, but I don't get the red dot telling me I've got 3 post responses.  This has been happening for over a year both on my notebook (Chrome, Firefox) and on my iPhone (Safari).  Can you take a look at what the issue is?

2. For those of us who don't use Tapatalk and use a browser like Safari on iPhone, notifications are buried in an icon with three horizontal lines.  So to get to a post notification it requires double the clicks.  (See image above).  Can you consider getting rid of the "+" icon which allows someone to create a new post (its redundant, you have a huge green button above the fold) and making the room to then expose the "globe" icon instead?  Getting to Notifications can be much easier on a mobile browser this way.

Thanks.

A few other message boards I visit take me directly to my first unread post in a thread I've already been in.  You guys mark it with the new content divider, but it would be awesome if it just automatically took me there when I returned to a thread.

Someone here (hawkeye i think) mentioned the function that allows you to jump into a thread where you left off, new content launch point... that would be nice, we used to have that at JI i believe.

I think as far as what JN needs is more branding and more official content. Bloody Disgusting was horror movie forum (i grew up in the 80s, OK) that continued to flesh out the articles, reviews, interviews, and sharing & promoting member content... that site today is one of *if not, THE* premiere online horror film site... but it wasn't always that way. it was nothing more than JN is now in it's infancy.

Click on the speech bubble next to a thread...

dark bubble = you’ve posted in that thread.

light bubble = you haven’t posted in that thread.

no bubble = you’re all caught up

Porn

Hand to god:

I read Max' post, and I thought "porn" would be a great answer, and then I thought to myself "Tom Shane will beat me to it." And VOILA! The first comment.

TomShane......the true hero in these difficult times.

Not what I'm saying.  I'm aware of that, what I'm saying is when I go back into any thread I've read, whether I post in it or not, it automatically takes me to where I left off reading.

I would limit thread starting capabilities to someone that has at least 100 posts. It would greatly cut down on all of the trolls who come here mucking up the board.

No I don't like that one.  Just add more mods or actually dump these guys quick.

I've been to other forums and I wanted to make a good thread and nope!  You can;t you have not posted 100 times!

It sucks.

Add some sort of crossover thread/link to have discussions with opposing fan boards.

Could be based on the weekly opponent.  Perhaps even always keeping them running for division opponent fan boards.

Likely be a nightmare to moderate, but could be fun.

Imagine a GameDay thread with fans from opposing boards.  Would be a blast (if we ever won).

Cash prizes, more emojis, and perhaps some kind of glorified sticky recognition for the post of the week? Of course that shall be agreed upon soley by the community. Also add a sticky Wall of Shame for the biggest loser butt fumblers!

And just for s**** and giggles I think there should be a thread solely dedicated to fat people slipping on ice, cell phone vids of girls flashing their t!ts, and of course... dudes getting beat up in bar fights.

Now that's Entertainment!

Agree with all this...possibly monthly winners...if it can't be cash maybe you can get the Jets PR department to offer gift cards at Jetshop.  Promote the product.  Add the mafia forum as well as each game has an MVP.

So as we are trapped indoors I find myself with some extra time. I am going to be looking into updating some things on the site soon. I figured I would check to see if anyone had thoughts.  What can we do to make the site better?

Just throw any ideas you have out there. If we can do it we will. I hope to have better reaction posts in place soon and I am looking into an updated Post of the Week option. We had another request recently to fix the mp3 button, I am looking into that as well.

There is a feature called Clubs in Invision. That could be good, could be bad.  But basically let me know if you have thoughts on how we can make the forums or the site better?  Anything at all, let's hear it.

And thank you to so many of you for calling this place home.

You guys could stop being ******* dicks so I don't gotta worry about getting another strike. My father Tom Shane suggested I send this feedback. I didn't want to but I'm just happy we're finally talking

Edit: Another suggestion. I'm watching Cliffhanger, cause its basically the best movie ever. Maybe we can do a Stallone movie night. I feel selfish watching this alone.

How about whenever you respond to a post, you have the opportunity to rate the thread.

Make a scale of 1-10.  This way, instead of wasting our time reading a thread, we can decide based on the average rating if we should even bother reading it.  If 3 people rate a thread a 5, and the fourth rate it a 9, the average rating is a 6.

What do you think?

I give this a 2.
