Antonio Allen Is Back

His career was on an upward trajectory until Rex made him a CB.

When Bowles became HC I thought Allen would be a big part of the defense, because Allen seems to have use as a "nickel LB" who can also cover TEs man-to-man (he shut down Gronk in 2013).  Bowles likes this type of player.

I think Allen can re-start his career here if he still has it.

I was hoping he might be back when I saw he was released the other day, this is a nice depth signing. Didn't realize he had a torn Achilles last season though. Hopefully he's 100%.

Jets signed S Antonio Allen.

It's a reunion, as Allen was a 2012 seventh-round pick of the Jets. He started 17 games between 2013-14. He missed all of last season with a torn Achilles', and couldn't make the Texans' 53-man roster in camp. Allen will probably be limited to special teams for the time being.

The more I think about it the more I'm glad Allen is back.  It adds another
"hybrid" player to the defense for Bowles to deploy:

Mauldin LB/DE
Jenkins LB/DE
Catapano LB/DE
Lee LB/S
Pryor S/LB
Gilchrist S/CB
Miles S/LB
Allen S/LB

You've got Antonio Allen listed as a S/LB?

I thought he was more S/CB. Wasn't he a FS originally?

Could be wrong. I get your point though about positional versatility. It's a good thing.

True enough.  He was a hybrid player under Rex which sorta derailed his career.  But, Rex almost did the same thing to Pryor and our new HC straightened him out.  So I'm hopeful that AA can right his ship under Bowles but after the Achilles I can only view his as a jag on a prove it trial.

He was playing really well at S when they jerked him around and stuck him at CB, a position he had never played before. Yep, he wasn't a pure safety coming into the league, having played more of a "rover" type position at SC.  Perfect fit for what Bowles likes to do.

Considering that makes him the only on the league it's a pretty suite ability to have kinda like flying and x ray vision

Just had a vision of your girth packed into one of those flying suits while trying your hand at base jumping.

antonio allen

Antonio Allen was drafted by the Jets in the 7th round of the 2012 NFL draft. He was developing nicely at safety and showed some real promise, starting 18 games here. He was moved to cornerback by Rex Ryan during the last year of the Ryan\Idzik regime and the kid did everything that was asked of him.  He missed last season with a torn achilles and then signed with the Texans in March, but was recently released.

The move to bring Allen back makes a lot of sense. He provides depth at safety which is where he belongs.
