He carried the team ???

He was mediocre/bad most of that season ever before the iron Man got a boo boo and used that as an excuse.

This was a man that was out played by Fitz, jamarcus Russell, Tyler thigpen, Jay Cutler and more

Also, I love that Favre was outplayed by these guys in this thread, and yet in another, Eli can't get credit from you for outplaying Brady. In that case, somehow it was a team thing. Weird.

I thought Jace Amaro would be good because he had elite production in college and tested pretty well at the Combine. He just hated football. Two other guys I liked that washed out: Cedric Houston and Erik Ainge.

I knew Ainge wouldn't make it when I got texts from some of my degenerate buddies who were living in Hoboken that he somehow ended up passed out wasted on their couch even though he didn't know any of them.

There was a guy.  I cant think of who it was...it may have even been the old site.  Huge Brooks Bollinger fan.  Or was it one of Tom Shane's pseudonyms?  I can't remember crap anymore.  And who was the Marko Cavka fan that caused him to become a meme around here?  I want to say it was the buxom blonde lady who's name I can't remember.  Help fish.

Fed jetstone. And limolady was the marko cavka fan

I just remember actually believing we had a shot that season.  Maybe it was because we finally dumped Penny.

I definitely had hope after that Tennessee game, he was playing well at the time but a week later hope was gone.

You can say Eli outplayed Brady.

It's so funny how you being these meaningless stats into play.  Who cares how many yards he threw for?  I guess you were impressed when he led 15 4th qtr points at SD in a blowout or the tack on TDs vs ari(he was great that day but padded stats late), or leading us to 10 points vs NE at home.  He was poor most of that year, he had some good games that skewed numbers along with his garbage time production.  He kept bad teams in games like Cincy and kc, he led our O to 13 points in 5 qtrs vs a terrible Oakland team (a year later on the same field we scored 38 I believe).  Late in the year he didn't show when it got cold, our only win in the last 5 games came when our D scored in the final minutes.  We had to watch Chad Pennington walk into our stadium and take a much less talented team to a division title after they won one a year earlier but yeah favre was great for us.

You're beating this drum pretty hard. The reality is the vast majority of Jets fans love players like Martin and Namath. There will never be 100% unison on any sports opinion and both guys were far from flawless, so maybe just ignore the handful of folks who point out the flaws if it hurts your butt so much.

Thanks for noticing. Shall redouble my efforts now than I know it’s working.

Yeah, i can’t tell if his is a memory issue or perception issue. The qb play was night and day, we actually drubbed teams (cardinals game that season comes to mind) which is something we never really have done. The tail end of that season obviously sucked but there was a pretty wide dichotomy of qb play from first portion to latter portion presumably due to the injury.

Which Jets players have had the most hype and forum fanboy love that then turned out to be completely undeserved?

A couple quick ones that come to mind:  Kellen Clemens and Brooks Bollinger.  There were quite a few people on those bandwagons.  Unfortunately, those wagons had broken wheels.

Any others?

Matt Simms.  But to be fair, I think I was the only fan of his on this entire forum.

So, Chad doesn't belong on this list.

Chad Pennington had a career 32-29 record as Jets QB, including a paltry 10.9 yards per completion (Mark Sanchez's was 11.8), which also came with a 2-4 record and 77.3 QB Rating in the playoffs.

Chad Pennington never amounted to anything except a massive disappointment.

I was a giddy as Herm when Chad came on the scene.   We finally had our homegrown QB.

Now, people forget how good Chad was in the beginning.

Chad's team went 8-3 in the regular season his first year.  He was the talk of football.   He showed great vision and poise and anticipation and timing and my god... that play fake!

He had a 104.2 quarterback rating and threw for 22 and 6.  That's legit star stuff right there! (BTW I can't resist the dig, Sanchez threw 63 rating and 12 and 20).

It fell apart against the Raiders.   Some like, Charles Woodson say they figured him out and pressured him into a bad game.  Others say he hurt himself early in that game.   He was never the same after that for sure.

Semantics?  Never amounted to anything implies scrub.  Chad was a star, then a starter.  If Chad belongs here... Then I submit Mark Sanchez.

Romanowski scared the living daylights out of him, then got hurt the following preseason. Remember when Herm played Vinny in the first half then Chad in the second lol?

Penningtons arm was never great but once the shoulder went he just couldn’t drive the ball anymore.

Yep it was all Brett, never mind all the give FA additions especially up front which took us from one of the worst OLs in football to one of the best along with over if the easiest schedules we have ever had.  It was all the greatness of a player who didn't want to be here and played like it.?

Late in Brett's career the cold affected him, remember when he handed the 2007 NFC title to the Giants in the bitter cold?

I love the "they figured him out stuff".  He and the O had a bad game but people forget this game was 10-10 late in the third.  The next year he got hurt in preseason, when he came back he was on fire. He had 12 TDs and 4 INTs in his first 5 starts after being figured out.  The next season he had a rating around 100 before he tore his rotator cuff, he came back and led us to the playoffs- all after being figured out.

The next season we were 1-1 on our way to 2-1 when he got hurt week 3 and was out for the year.  The next season when healthy he led us to 10 wins and a playoff app.  In 2008 he took a 1 win team and led them to a division title

Chad's career was about his durability, his body wasn't meant to play NFL football.  If he was durable he would have been the best QB in our history.  He wasn't "figured out", he was never fully healthy after that injury in Buffalo in 2004.

Yep, bill parcells did a horrendous job as GM when it came to the draft.  1997-1999 he had 30+ picks and hit on about 3 of them.  Boose, frost, Rick Terry, Terry Day, David Loverne, Eric Ogbogu,...
