Wilson guys aren't allowed to talk about elite physical attributes

im not picky, nor am I wedded to some outcome that just has to happen.

if it's not Sewell, take Pitts. Whoever it is should be elite no brainer 100% certain pick

too many people are content with the coinflip

Physical attributes and QBs don’t have the same equivalence as LTs and physical attributes.

50/50 on a QB is fairy good odds.

QBase puts Wilson at a 70% chance of not busting. So that’s better than a coin flip.

23% odds.  Basically, history tells us 1 of the 4 hit and the other 3 will not be franchise QB's.

1. He's not really a one year wonder. Mostly he improved. If you look at the USC game (pre hand) you see pretty much the same guy you see in 2020. He does a couple Manziel type plays (one which he converts) but you still see the release, arm strength and ridiculous accuracy. It is funny that people actually criticize Wilson because he worked his butt off and got better.

2. He is not injury prone. He had non-contact injuries to his labrums which were a result of throwing too hard at too young an age. If you saw his pro day you know his arm is live, and there is no reason to think it will reoccur. Brees had a dramatically worse one and played with it for 15 additional years with no issue. He broke a thumb tackling someone who intercepted him. He does not have a history of ankles soft tissue issues or missing games. If you look at his highlights he seems really durable as well

3. As Simms says the small school thing is overblown. First "a throw is a throw" and unlike what some say threw a ton of tight window throws, many amazing throws. Also you could argue that being on the best teams in the nation and throwing to future NFL receivers is a bigger advantage than having lower talent WRs going against small school QBs.  There is also no data to suggest big school QBs project better into the NFL. In fact there are many small school guys that were clearly better than their competition that transitioned well to the NFL

Also light schedule or not Wilson didn't just play well he essentially had one of Top 2 seasons by a QB according to PFF, who does not grade by snaps but by the timing, placement and accuracy of a throw and whether it was interceptable.

But people seem to hate him. Some of it I think is a reaction to Wilson passing Fields as a prospect that they won't even look at him impartially.

Thanks! I'm looking for reasons to be excited about this kid, so I really do want to better understand what his fans see.

Re level of competition - Maybe this is overblown at times, but I would most definitely argue that it is a very important factor to consider...

A QB could have all the physical abilities to be successful, and he'll bring them with him to the NFL. However, the extent that he makes the adjustment from his previous competition is going to determine if he can continue being successful with his physical tools. Zach Wilson could have 5 hours of incredible highlight reel plays from last season. However, making those plays against BYU level competition IS NOT the same as making those plays against NFL level competition. Its not unfair to wonder if he would even have made those same plays against top tier elite college competition.

High school pitcher who throws a 90mph fast ball over the plate might strike out every batter he faces in high school. Same pitcher throws 90mph over the plate in the pros and gets hit out of the park everytime. Just because he has the tools to look like a stud against low level college competition doesn't equate to doing it in the NFL. I think whether he can make that huge leap or not is a fair question because we simply don't know until we see it. Sam obviously never did.

What? How does Carolina go from wanting to pick their own QB at 2... to taking Sam Darnold instead? They're THAT high on Sam? Them Carolina boys be drinking the unfiltered tap.

Darnold is going to be cooking with gas with Matt Rhule

Price was probably astronomical and/or Jets just have their guy and would not budge

Carolina talked to the Jets about moving up to #2 at the very early stages of the offseason. They moved off trading up lately, rationalizing that investing that much into a rookie was too big of a risk

This is good to hear.

Means they weren't completely sold on Wilson, and they knew Sam still had potential.

And since they are 100% in on Wilson...  perhaps a trade still occurs.

Jets fans talking themselves into the greatness of a QB prospect who was on the verge of being a college backup six months ago is priceless

He came off a surgery to his throwing should and throwing hand both requiring surgery, which is why that previous season he was not real good, and that he had to win the job back this past year.

I can’t figure out if this is a pro-Zach Wilson post or an anti-Zach Wilson post

To be fair a 2nd this year from Carolina (39th overall) has more value than a 2nd next year.
