Who can forget the many calls for patience last year as Adam Gase was supposed to build a team around Sam Darnold, Breshad Perriman, and LeVeon Bell? But this—this one is the redshirt year.

Totes.

For all we know, Adam Gase could've gotten better after his 1st year of coaching.

Oh, wait...

Quinnen sucking in the oxygen. Looks completely gassed.

In fairness, the defense is probably getting pretty exhausted by needing to continually run far down the field between plays in order to line up in formation for the next one.

At least they get those nice breaks during the plays though.

23 points with no one at qb...the positive I take is the system works...Mike white or Zach for that matter we are in this game and maybe winning it. I know best case but think about this..we are scoring tds with Ryan griffin...schemed open...progress is being made by the team.

This loss also sucks

You cannot be in a game where your defense allows a d on every opposing drive. Might have felt less hopeless, but this is a defense problem.

Would expect when you bring in defensive coach, even if the defense lacks talent, he will scheme to try to minmize the team's weakness. And really with the way the rules are set up, so much of defense spare a decent pass rusher or the unicorn of a shutdown corner is scheme, It's why you might hire a defense HC in the first place.  This is like the obverse of the coin with Gase on the front. You know Gase had crappy talent, but you can draft offensive talent. If your defensive coaching staff cannot stop teams at all, no matter how weak the talent, that's really bad.

Are they playing their asses off tonight? Because, to be clear, the best case for Saleh tonight is that the defense quit, because if they’re playing hard right now and this is the result, what does that say about the coaching?

I’d say the offense is still out there trying to put points on the board and the lack of great-elite talent is getting thrashed by a team that has an elite OL, two great RBs, and decent enough WRs to carve a young secondary that plays up and down.

Not every bad performance means players quit.  No amount of “effort” is going to make a bit of difference when there is a talent gap.

At this point I’m ready to see Zach with LaFleur upstairs.  We better see Better play from him.

And, apparently, the game plan has changed since Wilson was injured. At the beginning of the game, the announcers said White threw on 1st down 23 times last week, and the most Wilson ever did that in a game was 13. Although maybe White just had more 1st downs because he was actually moving the offense.

Scheme can't fix lack of talent.

More than likely a little bit of both comes into play.
