NBA suspends the season until further notice

Recommended Posts

@greenwave81

ACC Tournament not allowing spectators (limited tix to family) tomorrow. They did allow them yesterday and today. NBA season halted NHL probably the same tomorrow...

I don't know, is it me, or are we over reacting? I'm not making light of this, but what is the difference from going to a sporting event, and lets say a shopping mall?.

This is a VERY good watch.

Honestly, base your entire opinion off this podcast. Not off of CNN or FOX NEWS.

Who the Hell even watches those two networks anymore. If you want to see Trump bashed, watch CNN, if you want to see people kissing his ring, watch FOX. Niether is objective.

Until a vaccine is developed, things will just continue to shut down world wide.  Since testing is so delayed here in US, there’s just no accurate data to truly gauge just how bad this is here and how bad it’s going to get. People, institutions are already reacting. Wait until the tests are available. The numbers will skyrocket and so will the panic.  It’s already a given  half the population will get this. It’s a matter of staying healthy as possible to fight it off if infected. Eat right Take zinc - drink water. Zinc is really important Daily since it zeroes in on respiratory infections.

Is it really that difficult to understand?  There is a lot of research out there to be read if you are at all interested.

Do you (or anyone) consider sars and mers, which are the coronavirus’ closest relatives to be anything like the flu?

I get it, the flu is an easy comparison, but its not a good one.

and, no, I’m not paranoid.  I am realistic.  I know that I am going to get it, just as most everyone will.  Not much any of us can really do about it.

Im not familiar with sars and mers.
Yes there is a lot of info out there and most say its a flu with flu based symptoms and just like the flu some people can and will die from it.

the thing is the good doctor gave sound advice and you made it sound as if he was he was another sheep.

so what do you know that others dont? You kinda made it sound like the plague being disguised as a virus

look Im also concerned and i have been washing my hands 10 times a day and changing some behaviors. Im the end this is probably nothing. A lot of old folks will die and life will be disrupted. Not at all happy about cancelling my plans

Nonsense... China just curbed this thing in 30 days... the idea that cases will exponentially increase after the absurd measures that the entire world is taking is illogical.

COVID-19 is a corona virus like SARS and MERS...did you get those also?  Doubt it.

Thankfully, COVID-19 while a lot more contagious than SARS and MERS is a lot less lethal.  COVID-19 is contagious enough to spread the globe...but it's lethality?

Not so much.

Right, and it was more lethal it'd be easier to contain because you'd have less contagious people out in public with mild or no symptoms. Like SARS

Seriously.  Anyone who has spent more than 3 half-times in the Gate D spiral at the old Meadowlands is completely immune to everything.

I think it's the cattle tunnel from the parking lot to the stadium that put my immune system into overdrive.

Ok, if this is no more dangerous than the flu, why did we just suspend travel from europe for 30 days, why is Italy making it mandatory  that all stores except food and pharmacies  be closed, why is there a whole town in New Rochelle quarnatined, why is the NCAA banning fans from March Madness,  why did the NBA just suspend the season  because this is just the flu, why did the CDC just declare a pandemic?

I think the answer to all of that is this is new, which means they don't know what this is yet.. so better safe than sorry. Additionally, people don't have any immunity. They know it's spreading quickly, so why not take every precaution possible just in case this is something that is more easily transmitted than the flu and has a high mortality rate. It could wipe out millions, or it could be similiar to a seasonal flu.. why risk the former even if the latter is more likely??

Even on a personal level ,I'm not to worried about this tbh, that being said I've stocked up on caloricaly dense non perishables just in case cause nobody knows for sure what this looks like in a month

Not at all true.

China has curbed nothing and why would you believe anything they say at this point anyways?  They absolutely bungled this from day one. As soon as they release everyone from their mandatory quarantine, it's going to spread again.

On top of that, pandemics dont work the way you are suggesting. It takes very little for the spread to happen, especially if the R0 is high.

Whatever...should have known better to offer a medical opinion on a football message board...after I was asked.

Perhaps I'd value your opinion more if you'd present your side of things so it could be discussed rather than just taking pot shots Einstein.

Thanks for your opinion, it was even handed and well reasoned.  Don't argue with that guy who claims he's read research on a chronic sickness complication of a virus just discovered 3 months ago. He obviously is reading sites that aren't exactly evidence based!

I'm in Austin, TX and the only reason there isn't acknowledged community spread here is because they are unable to test for it.  All of central Texas is limited to 25 tests per day.  25!

Wow it seems like this government is deliberately keeping the public in the dark to deflect their irresponsible handling of this . But there seems to be a deeper motive.  Is it possible they are that stupid? It’s like they are purposely neglecting to be honest about the situation by propagating this falsehood that there’s nothing to worry about. If there are extremely limited tests, then the numbers wouldn’t reflect the actual problem.  If there was adequate testing, as in S Korea, you could get more of a sense of its spread. But then of course, the reaction would have a direct hit on the economy. Its as if they are Hiding the truth to save their azz at the expense of millions.

Can someone tell me how South Korea and other countries were already prepared with 10's or 100's of thousands of these tests just as this virus ramped up but the US doesn't have them, can't seem to get them or can't manufacture them over several weeks?

i didn't realize there were so many 80 year old nba fans.  the nba won't be missed.  all they really need to do is play the last two minutes of every game to find out who wins.
Sounds like the new NFL ...

One thing China can do that the US cannot ... Scale up construction of hospitals... So much red tape in this country prevents quick response on that scale.

You're operating under the belief that our government, of any kind led by any party or any figured, loved or hated, is competent.

I'm operating under the belied that any government, led by any individual, couldn't govern themselves out of a wet paper bag with a M-1 tank.

Green wave has been a solid poster for quite a bit and seems like a relatively level headed guy. You sound like a total buffoon and a jackass. Sit this out.

He might be a solid poster and level headed poster.  That doesn’t make him a good doctor.

There is plenty of research by asian specialists who have been dealing with it for 4 months now.  Its not hard to open your eyes and read.
