So difficult in my own head to buy into either side of this.

On one hand we are re building and why give up draft capital in a season where there are really no playoff expectations.

On the other hand, in real limited play Zach has looked great and maybe we can contend for a playoff spot if things go well for us and we catch a couple of good breaks.

Pass rushers don’t become available.   Not if they are worth their salt. Maybe you can get a low rated second tier guy, but the cost may not be worth it

Mentioned this in the other thread, but I think it is likely that after seeing how the defense played yesterday, they are looking to upgrade the pass rush to help protect the young secondary and reduce the pressure on some of the rookie/2nd year guys that we are hoping to develop.

I also wonder what this might say about the health of a guy like Vinny Curry.  We have been hearing he would be back for week 2, maybe it is looking like he may be out a bit longer.

Nice replacement.  Hes young like Lawson with the low sack totals like Lawson.  Dont know where he ranked for hits on the QB.  I could see it because of the age factor over the 31 year old CJ but Jones had 19 sacks just two years ago.

Plus, not dropping  too behind in games   will help Zach as much as anything. Our secondary 100% was predicated on having a significant pass rush. Kinda Saleh’s thing I believe.

We lost our best pass rusher.  JD is likely making calls to see who is available and at what price.  Maybe he makes a move, maybe he doesn't. 

But it would be negligent not to explore options.

In all seriousness, I think they know that they aren’t going to have a consistent pass rush without someone else.  No pass rush means defense gets torched and can’t get off the field while simultaneously giving up points.  That means the offense can’t develop a rhythm and will, likely, fall behind.  They fall behind, they have to pass a lot, becoming one dimensional.  Becoming one dimensional hurts Zach’s development.

I had said before a lot of people were saying “next man up” when Lawson went down as if we had anyone on this team of his caliber.. we simply don’t. There very well could be a domino effect without his presence, our young secondary has to cover longer and will get torched more often. Not only could that hurt their confidence and development but the offense will have to play from behind more and like previous poster mentioned, they won’t be able to find a rhythm.
 

Given how much draft capital we have next year, it wouldn’t kill us to surrender a mid round pick for the sake of keeping us on the right track this year by attempting to replace what would’ve been Lawson’s production
