Jets decline Becton's 5th year option

This is kind of misleading. If I’m not mistaken there aren’t many guys who are given 5 year deals coming out. (Not sure, but i don’t think every 1st round pick does, do they?)

All Rookies get a 4 year contract. All 1st round picks get a 5th year team option.

i think every team gets a 5th year option on all first round picks. it's a way for teams to save money, i dont think the players like it anyway because its a way for teams to try to control a good player for less money one more year

The player's union is as weak as a kitten.

He’s playing for about what, 3 years, 45 million if he proves himself reliable this year?

With the rodgers vibes, the competition, the stakes, I’d say if his knee was reconstructed properly, he’ll have a monster season

JD/Woody are moving on from this.  The Jets have no desire to deal with players with issues.

players with issues?  That's about 25% give or take - and some of those are super stars. Hell that applies to coaching staff as well (cough cough DWI offensive coach)

I think that coach was fired with LaFleur in January.

I’m not sure I’d ever feel comfortable giving him a long term deal. Even if he earns it. Seems like the type of player who’d Mo Wilk us.

I'd be highly interested, however on the comp pick if he balls out this year and gets some sucker (Not us) to pay him

It's the only way he's gonna get paid.

i mean its better than what used to happen with rookie contracts. teams would get rekt when a high first round pick busted because the contracts were enormous

Yea but that doesn't protect the players which is the main job of the union.
