He’s a beast in the box and makes an impact there. By far the best safety in the NFL with the most impact inside the box. I’m not sold on his coverage skills, don’t care for his attitude and would prefer fleecing a team and reinvesting the assets into glaring holes that we have at more important positions. Use his value to our advantage. I still feel exactly the same about him but can still give him credit for continuing his ascension as a really good player who does some things great. I am purely looking at it as how can we fix this team the quickest and create enough draft capital to address multiple glaring needs that are more important than a safety (OL,Pass rusher, WR and even CB). Jamal is our only realistic shot at getting 2 1sts or a 1st and a 2nd which is more valuable to this team than a susperstar box safety. Also, when it comes to safeties, I prefer ball hawking safeties and having a good front 7 that creates the pressure. I just don’t like how poorly this team is constructed and I’m just thinking big picture and timing of contracts and having to pay top dollar for Jamal long before we are even competitive. It’s not efficient and wasteful. Just my opinion though. Hopefully that makes more sense then blind Jamal hate without context. 8 3

nycdan
While we're at it, let's trade Darnold, Crowder, Jenkins, Q, and maybe now Ryan Griffin can get us a draft pick. Then we can trade down in the draft to get even more picks. Let's field an entire team of mid-round rookies next year. Oh and we'll have just oodles of salary cap available with all the savings. That should be fun. 1 2 2

All of this makes sense and unlike so many others you actually have a well thought out argument. One thing I would disagree with is 'fleecing' a team by getting a 1st and 2nd for a player like Adams, especially if we are talking about a good team who is picking somewhere in the late or twenties. As a GM, unless I have already made up my mind that I am not resigning Adams, I'm not giving him up for a late first round pick and a late 2nd. The risk of those players busting or ending up JAGs is just not worth it- I don't care what position you decide to address. You don't nec. have to trade an asset like Adams to fix the team. There's other ways of doing it. The other thing I'll say is that I'm not 100% against Adams' attitude. He is who he is. He talks trash and spends too much time on social media, maybe he's a bit of a diva off the field but he plays with a ton of heart and has immense passion for the game. And he backs it up. Nobody has ever complained about him as being a locker room cancer or bad leader in the locker room. I.E. his teammates love him so that should be all that matters. I hear people say he should just 'shut up and play'. What are we, in the 50s? Give me a break, let him talk as long as he is backing it up with his play. He is having fun with the game he loves. He's not a robot. 4 3

Popular Post RutgersJetFan
I’m sorry but are we actually looking at it as a point of pride that the team has spent all of its draft capital on DL the last decade and the ******* safety is leading the team in sacks? This is a good thing? 5
Creepy Lurker
Serious question/hypothetical scenario: Do we acquire real ball hawking FS, move Maye to SS and use Jamal almost exclusively in the box with more of a big nickel base package? You can’t deny Jamal’s talent in the box but he’s not being used like a traditional safety. He seems to thrive in this role though and maybe it’s a good compromise and better way to use him while helping the secondary.

BklynJetsFan85
Jamal Adams (potentially becomes an era like safety/ examples : Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu) Now some will say the Jets are 2-7, so who cares. Our defense is 2nd best run defenders in the league and that's with a defense riddled with injuries. We have a young QB who has ZERO protection. He plays decent despite that. Imagine if he had consistent good protection and they opened up holes for our RBs on a consistent basis... you could easily flip that record to 7-2. Our OL is our biggest problem and one of the biggest reasons we have only won 2 games. We need more consistent CBs - not stars but good players who dont take stupid penalties and have football IQ. We dont need the most athletic guys 1st/2nd round type guys to be good back there. As for our OL - we need to go after guards and a tackle in FA, and if we come up empty it is a MUST to draft a LT in the 1st round, possibly trade back if we suck finishing the season. 1
