kdels62
This post feels weirdly like a goodbye. Rumors have Maye likely signing a contract worth almost $15 million a year. I’d like to see him come back but that price is steep.
Popular Post Columbia Jet Fan
I saw a post that said the franchise tag for safeties next year is ~10.5mm. I think Jets will offer him something like 3 years 25-30mm with 2/3rds guaranteed and tell him if he doesn’t take it they’ll franchise him. 10

Popular Post mrcoops
Franchise tag is $10.5M for Safeties. If the Jets can't strike a long-term deal, they will just tag him for that amount. 7

Considering how many FA we will probably sign, no comp pick for Maye. Still hope that tweet is just a negotiation tool. Might as well use tag on him. No one else comes close to tag.

joewilly12
2021 NFL Free Agency: Star rating is out of five. Age listing as of Sept. 1, 2021. Daniel Sorensen, S, Chiefs. Age: 31. Dean Marlowe, S, Bills. Age: 29. Tedric Thompson, S, Browns. Age: 26. Deon Bush, S, Bears. Age: 28. George Iloka, S, Vikings. Age: 31. Cody Davis, S, Patriots. Age: 32. ADVERTISING Milles Killebrew, S, Lions. Age: 28. Jordan Richards, S, Ravens. Age: 28. Adrian Colbert, S, Giants. Age: 27. Andrew Adams, S, Buccaneers. Age: 28. Nate Ebner, S, Giants. Age: 32. Kavon Frazier, S, Dolphins. Age: 27. Anthony Levine, S, Ravens. Age: 34. Charles Washington, S, Cardinals. Age: 28. Rudy Ford, S, Eagles. Age: 25. Brandon Wilson, S, Bengals. Age: 27. Jordan Dangerfield, S, Steelers. Age: 30. Marcus Maye, S, Jets. Age: 27. Marcus Maye really stepped up in the wake of Jamal Adams' departure, becoming one of the better safeties in the NFL. John Johnson, S, Rams. Age: 25. John Johnson is one of the top safeties in the NFL, and he's only 25 years old. The sky is the limit for him. Justin Simmons, S, Broncos. Age: 27. Justin Simmons has blossomed into one of the top safeties in the NFL. He has gotten better each season throughout his 5-year career. He has earned a huge contract. Marcus Williams, S, Saints. Age: 24. Marcus Williams is known for surrendering the infamous Stefon Diggs touchdown, but he has developed into a terrific safety. He's somehow still only 24 years old. Desmond King, S/CB, Titans. Age: 26. Desmond King is a talented player who can literally play everywhere in the secondary. He's also a good return specialist. He's a valuable player to have on a roster because of his flexibility. Kareem Jackson, S, Broncos. Age: 33. Kareem Jackson performed on a Pro Bowl level last year, but the Broncos may not exercise the club option on him because he's due $11 million as a 33-year-old. Keanu Neal, S, Falcons. Age: 26. Keanu Neal was once a terrific safety, but injuries have sapped his ability. He's still a quality player, and he's also still young (26), so he could rebound in 2021 and beyond. Malik Hooker, S, Colts. Age: 25. Malik Hooker is an exceptional talent, but simply cannot stay healthy. He's never played a full season, and he's missed 28 games in four years. The good news is that he's only 25, so he still has time to turn his career around. Anthony Harris, S, Vikings. Age: 29. Anthony Harris was coming off an amazing 2019 campaign when he entered free agency last spring. The Vikings could have given him a huge contract, but they franchised him instead. This turned out to be a good decision because Harris regressed. He wasn't bad, but he was far from the dominant player he was prior to 2020. Tashaun Gipson, S, Bears. Age: 31. Tashaun Gipson did a good job replacing the departed Adrian Amos last year. He was solid in all regards. The only downside is his age (31). Jaquiski Tartt, S, 49ers. Age: 29. Jaquiski Tartt is a quality, well-rounded safety. He played just seven games in 2020. Duron Harmon, S, Lions. Age: 30. Patriot players going elsewhere don't always succeed. Duron Harmon did, performing well in all regards for the Lions. Xavier Woods, S, Cowboys. Age: 26. Xavier Woods was a decent starting safety for the Cowboys last year, covering well but struggling with some missed tackles. He's only 26, so there's room for improvement. Rayshawn Jenkins, S, Chargers. Age: 27. Rayshawn Jenkins has made some nice improvements to his game. He missed some tackles in 2020, but he covered very well. Karl Joseph, S, Browns. Age: 27. Time is running out for Karl Joseph to prove his worth as a first-round pick. He's played well at times in his career, but wasn't very good in 2020, thanks to injuries. Jalen Mills, S/CB, Eagles. Age: 27. Jalen Mills did a good job of transitioning from cornerback to safety. He performed well in every regard at his new position. Damontae Kazee, S, Falcons. Age: 28. Damontae Kazee logged 10 interceptions in the two years leading into 2020, but played just four games this past season because of a torn Achilles. Erik Harris, S, Raiders. Age: 31. Erik Harris isn't a great player by any means, but he's a very versatile defensive back who can play in the slot if needed. Chris Banjo, S, Cardinals. Age: 31. Usually just a core special-teamer, Chris Banjo stepped up and played safety well. However, he's 31 now, so it's unlikely he'll play well on defense much longer. Will Parks, S, Broncos. Age: 27. Bradley McDougald, S, Jets. Age: 30. Josh Jones, S, Jaguars. Age: 26. Sean Davis, S, Steelers. Age: 27. Delano Hill, S, Seahawks. Age: 25. D.J. Swearinger, S, Saints. Age: 30. Andrew Sendejo, S, Browns. Age: 33. Tavon Wilson, S, Colts. Age: 31. Michael Thomas, S, Texans. Age: 31. Jahleel Addae, S, Chargers. Age: 31. DeAndre Houston-Carson, S, Bears. Age: 28. Damarious Randall, S, Seahawks. Age: 29. Sharrod Neasman, S, Falcons. Age: 29. Terrence Brooks, S, Patriots. Age: 29. Johnson Bademosi, S, Saints. Age: 31. Shawn Williams, S, Bengals. Age: 30. Matthias Farley, S, Jets. Age: 29.
addage
Time for Saleh to earn his keep. Hearts and Minds. It's always easier to reup if you like the coaches and GM team. Most FA's want to stay if they can. But it's always a negotiation. The tone of his "negotiation" message was scrupulously neutral. Makes me think he wants to stay. As the market clarifies, a deal will likely get done.

If the roster was stacked, this might be more possible. Letting him walk would add to the already poor morale in the Jets locker-room. And on a team with a lot of holes, letting him walk would add another one. At some point, Jets need to build from within. There may be insider stuff that pushes this question on way or the other. But the public commentary on Maye has been positive.

PepPep
Looks more like a post from a guy who is coming up on FA and appreciates being drafted by the Jets and being a Jets for the past 4 years, nothing more, nothing less. Maybe he comes back, maybe he doesn't. I don't see him suggesting he'll do either in this post. As far as the price tag, you have to pay for good players. What is so hard to understand about that? You want a really good safety? You will have to pay for one, eventually. If JD feels like he can use his cap space in a better way and bring in someone else or draft a replacement, fine. I have faith in JD- for now. But Maye is a good player and I'd like the Jets to start holding on to their good players.

These players need to watch out how aggressive they approach leaving an offer on the table. Money will probably be tight with so many teams cutting players to get under the cap
