For decades, I would hope one day to see the Jets not only in a SB, but to actually win one.  Now, at age 73 I wonder if I will see the Jets as a competitive team with the years I have left on this planet.  My daughter who is 42 and my son who is 37 now have thoughts if they will see the Jets win a SB.  Ownership, GM's coaches, players, etc., years of changes and we can't seem to nail what the problem(s) is/are.  It's way above my grade to try and figure what the problems are because the people getting paid to figure it out all these years haven't.

at least you seen one. and you were what, 20 or so in 1968 so you were old enough to come away with some great memories.

i used to think it was a Jets thing but were not the only ones in this boat.

Cleveland and Detriot have never been to a SB. Jax and Houston too but there expansion teams.

so were not the only ones, just the longest who have been there. i think you are starting to see competitive games now. when was the last time you have been glued to your seat the the very end of a Jets games 2 weeks in a row? yeah these games are far from perfect but were young so thats to be expected.

stay positive pal.

Which planets are you considering moving too?

It’s a 32 team league that blatantly favors the star players, as they all do

we need a Ewing caliber player that can take 3 steps, lift  his pivot foot and dribble with both hands and get away with it
we don’t have that guy rn
This .. Zach could the man with his Boy Band looks ... he just needs to play better.

I'm 50. Missed SBIII and have zero confidence in ever seeing the Jets play in a SB, Forget win one, in my lifetime.

I HAVE actively discouraged my kids from becoming Jets fans. Seriously.

I'm just here out of habit and to talk sh*t.

My daughter pulls for the Browns.  I couldn't disagree with that decision.  And she hates the Pats, so I did a good job.

Don't lose faith! It happens. I went through 18 years of NO PLAYOFFS. 18 years of Dick Jauron, Mike Mularkey, Chan Gailey. I'm in my 50s and wondered if I'd see my team even go to the playoffs.

We've not won anything and even with a good start this season I'm still conditioned (as a long suffering Bills fan) to believe something will go wrong at some point, but just being able to see a talented team with talented players... it's great. What's more, it's made me look forward to Sundays again.

Before Beane and McDermott took the reins I was struggling to even watch the games and just did it out of blind loyalty. Now I feel reinvigorated, like an old man who's only just discovered Viagra.

I've said this before here but when the good times finally come calling it makes it that much sweeter that you had to endure so many crap years because it reminds you what a loyal fan you've been. I'm sure the Pats have already lost at least 50% of their fan base because they were never true fans to begin with.

We're the real fans because we've suffered.

The way I deal with it is to pretend that the Jets franchise is a like a haunted house movie franchise where everyone who shows up gets themselves killed in the stupidest of ways but you keep watching because you think that, one of these days, one of these guys is going to walk into this house, look at his pals, and say, “You know what? Let’s not go check the fuse box. We can simply choose to not do that.” (In this case, “checking the fuse box” means “hiring your drinking buddy to be the OC.”)

Well, Im 63 and think about how far football has come since our early days of watching. Now when they show a highlight from 90's, 80's whatever, it's really fuzzy and hard to even see what's going on. HighDef has really spoiled us.

When I started watching (late 70's, early 80's) we had no cable tv. Our TV had an antenna and we got local broadcasting, like most of America. My Sunday would start with opening the Sunday paper to the sports section/TV guide HOPING my beloved Jets would be shown (local CBS). But most Sundays it was the FN Bills game. I would get SO HAPPY if CBS was showing the Jets, and SO DISSAPOINTED if it were the Bills, and would never know until Sunday morning.  The absolute worse would be if the paper said 'Jets 1pm on CBS' but come game time, the TV said "Welcome to Rich Stadium and the Buffalo Bills". ARRRRG!!!

Most Sundays the ONLY way to get any Jets info was to huddle up to my AM Transistor Radio.....turning the turner dial back and forth trying to get the game to come in a bit better (I live in Binghamton and the game was broadcast outa NYC I believe).

And this was well before internet (of course) and even before ESPN. All we had was HBO Inside The NFL that ran through all the games that week.....of course the Jets segment would be about 10 seconds long and typically show the long TD pass the other team made to win the game.......more ARRRRGGG!

There were no forums like this one, so the ONLY way to find out what happened was to buy a NY Daily News or NY Post the next morning. Sometimes that's when I would find out if we won the game. And if we played a late game, it would be TWO DAYS before the game review came out in the paper. Think about that.....the Jets played on Monday Night, but I couldn't read even one word about the game until Wednesday morning paper.

So anyways, I think there's WAY TOO MUCH exposure to football...it's EVERYWHERE now...TV, Phone, PC, you name it. We almost can't get away from it even if we wanted to. Over the years I've gone from being devastated and have a terrible week if we lost and super happy all week if we won, to trying to have a more blasé attitude. I've missed a ton of family events back in the day, only to have the Jets lose anyway, that now if someone plans something for Sunday I'll be annoyed but I'll go to it and try and watch the game later (and try not to have friends ruin with with "hahah jets suck" txt messages!

Hang in there my friend...and yes, we WILL get to see our Jets loft the Lombardi. Sooon, very soon.

I’m pushing 50

somehow after being in awe of hearing about literal generations of Sox and Cubs fans living complete lives with no titles, I believe this is my Jet destiny…

this is why so many of us are angry

dont judge us until you walk in our shoes

Well, I've told the story before.  My unit was doing a sweep of the A Shau Valley in December of 68 and early January of 69.  Our KIA's were piling up like cord wood and at that time we (all units in Nam) were losing between 500 and 600 men a week.  To be honest, the Jets weren't the number one thing on my mind, but I knew the Jets were having a good year in '68 and were going to the playoffs.  Long story short, I returned to base camp around the 15th or 16th of January '69.  You know, we didn't get news as it happened depending on where we were in those days.  My hometown newspaper which was sent to me was always a week or so late.  Anyway, when my chopper set down on our flight line at Camp Eagle, I see one of my buddies running down the flight line to greet me...I could see he was yelling something at me, but couldn't make out what he was saying.  He was from NY like me and we were both Jet fans.  As he approaches me about 15 feet away (and I remember it like it was yesterday), he yells, THE JETS WON!  I dropped down to my knees and cried...the joy of winning and tears of sorrow for so many KIA's that will never experience life.  I rotated home the end of April, just before the 101st decided to take on Hill 937 in the A Shau...2 and 3 NVA divisions surrounded the A Shau...that hill received a nickname...Hamburger Hill.  So, I'm thinking when I rotated home that the Jets were setup to win a couple of more SB's with JW...but it was not to be.  In fact, I was at the playoff game the following year and watched the Chiefs take down the Jets at Shea, 12-6...and that was it and here I am today, 73 years old...lots of memories good and bad.  Side note BP, Savage wasn't in Nam...he did get to see it and we talked about it many times.

Thank you for your service, Stalker.

Seriously.

Thank you.

I'm glad you made it back.

937 was a notorious SNAFU and a MF'er.
