Connor Hughes: Jets unlikely to re-sign Maye

Recommended Posts

The Athletic's Connor Hughes considers impending free agent S Marcus Maye "highly unlikely" to be re-signed by the Jets.

It sounds like it will be a mutual decision. Maye was slapped with the franchise tag last offseason, collecting $10.612 million for six games of action before suffering a torn Achilles' tendon. He also was arrested for DUI last offseason. Maye was borderline-great in 2020 but will now be a 29-year-old (in March) coming off a serious injury. He'll be signing elsewhere.

I feel like I’m always picking on them, but how is it possible for our beat reporters to be so bad?

Remember when my dude said the Jets had the best overall WRs (1-5) in the league? Lol

Connor Hughes sounds like someone who only watches Jets games to be honest. If someone impresses him in practice its all he can talk about, Carl Lawson would have been TJ Watt if he played this year

…and yet the Jets might be getting ready to draft Hamilton, another Safety we’re not going to want to pay. Life is a circle.

I don’t believe it.

JD & this regime seem to operate by taking safeties and DB’s 3rd rd or later. Seem to have a better grasp of positional draft value & at the bare minimum, an iota of patience.

Why is it Jets fans never really value their good understated players (Maye, Berrios), yet tremendously overvalue highly questionable ones (Leonard Williams when he was here, Jamal Adams, Quinnen Williams).

Maye has been one of the better safeties in the league for a long time now.  No he’s not legion of boom good, but easily top ten.  He was always inexpensive, and frankly one of the only bright spots on our team.

Sad to see him go, his injury was a big turning point for our defense (before and after went from meh to catastrophic)

If you don’t think we value Berrios around here, you haven’t been paying attention.

Maye is being overvalued by you.  Jamal & Quinnen haven’t been overvalued.  Quinnin would bring more back in a trade.  Easily.  As did Leo
