BigRy56
I honestly didn’t mind him as a player but you have to think Clowney or Yannick is on their way 1
JoJoTownsell1
Would love to hear if this was a product of Winters not being worth it (very possible) the other guys are clearly better or to clear out salary for a big trade/FA signing. JD is going to make some type of move sooner than later.

Very possible this was done to make cap room for a signing, but I think it could just as easily being Chris Johnson and JD cutting payroll knowing this season is unlikely to happen and putting that cap money towards 2021. 3

I would certainly be fine with them bringing him back at a lower salary, but I'm guessing that would have been discussed if they wanted him still and he clearly wasn't on board with it. It will be interesting to see if another team jumps in at anything close to that number. Meanwhile, this puts us in the top-3 in the league in cap space this year. Around $30MM. Not saying we should burn it but we can definitely afford to bring in another one-year player if we want. I'd venture to say Cameron Clark just moved up in the depth chart. I’d bet that Douglas brings in no names just yet, but holds onto some of that money to bring in other teams’ cuts. I could see him not being done at WR, CB, and OL. I suspect the plan is to have maximum cap room to go with the extra picks next year to make a real push if/when Darnold breaks out this year. Being the rare team that can pursue top end free agents while also having five picks in the top 100 could be fun next year. 5

Popular Post Greenbloodblitz
Winters is a good locker room guy that gave us everything he had. Poor bastard has played through injuries for the past 3 years. He bought a big house in the area and has kids, he ain't going anywhere. They'll be bringing him back

Maybe afraid he would get hurt or opt out and they would be stuck for the money or contract would roll over to next year. Either way, seems like cutting him loose sooner would have given him a better chance to land elsewhere. Didn't think there was ever a chance he was making team at his salary. It's not that curious. Players can opt out. Before cutting anyone loose, see if you've got a starting 5 on the line first. If a couple other guards had opted out of the season, Winters would still be on the roster. Wouldn't his cap number then continue until you cut him next year limiting your available cap space and what other moves you could make? Secondly, if he somehow got hurt, team would be responsible for full contract amount. That would be a disaster. After the recent lack of return the team is getting on several of these larger contracts including CJ and Enunwa and Johnsom, not sure I can bla,e them for Getting out from another bad one when they can

Jetlife33
I was wrong about this, so I’ll own up to it. I said multiple times throughout the offseason I thought winters was going to be the guy everyone wanted gone but was at right guard on opening day. The jets will literally have 5 new starters on the starting OL.

That's more penalties than the top penalty offender on the OLINE. Lead the NFL in penalties the 2 prior seasons from last other than Oline-men. With only 3 sacks last year and his top year at 9 1/2 I dont think he is on the Jets radar. Just my opinion.

southparkcpa
Money aside.... he might have been the best player we drafted that year . We had 2 first round picks. Winters contributed more than any player in our 2013 draft. Ill always respect him for that..... 4
