Cashman Returns to Practice, can he Stay Healthy to Give Linebackers a Boost?

Recommended Posts

Blake Cashman

With starting linebacker Jarrad Davis still sidelined due to injury and rookie linebacker going on injured reserve yesterday, the Jets could use some help at the position and it seems help is on the way…sort of.

Oft injured linebacker Blake Cashman made his return to practice today but if history is any indicator, he won’t be around for long.

LB Blake Cashman (injured reserve) returns to practice this week. #Jets need him with a shortage of bodies at LB.

Suffering one injury after another, Cashman has been limited to just 12 games since being drafted in 2019.  As many expected, he suffered a hamstring injury in week 1 and has been out ever since.  If Cashman could miraculously find a way to stay on the field, he could be a nice piece on defense for the Jets as he offers plus coverage skills and positional versatility as a player who can line up inside or out.

Cashman will be joining a group that is coming off of one of its best games in recent memory with CJ Mosley and Quincy Williams combining for 25 tackles and a pair of sacks.

When he's in there, he's good in coverage, is a good tackler and flys all over the place.  There's a reason he hasnt been cut despite all these injuries. They have high hopes for him.

That makes sense. The fact that he was drafted by Maccagnan and is still on the team speaks volumes as well.

Cashman makes Pennington's shoulder look sturdy.

I said that the Jets should cut Cashman before the season due to his continued injuries, and what does he do, he gets injured again.

The most important ability is availability, and he doesn't have it.

Cashman may only be here for a week if Jarrad Davis comes back after the bye, which would make this LB group look a lot better.

omg i almost forget that Davis is only out for 6 games. i thought we lost him for the year..

how about giving the kid Rashed a chance. call him up from PS.
