Popular Post BallinPB
Nobody is blaming this entirely on Gase. There's still a trail of stench that Macc leftover this franchise that will be felt for the next 1-2 years. Chris Johnson is also getting blame for his timing on firing Mac and his hiring of Gase. Gase is getting the blame for seemingly losing the locker room already, not having the players prepared to play on a week in and out basis and most of all our QB showing signs of regression. His time management last game was very Bowlesesque. Most of you know there was no grace period for this coach being that he was not a first time coach and his losing track record over the previous years. So does Gase deserve most of the blame. I'd say yes. Darnold is the biggest piece to this. He was brought in primarily to help Darnold take his game to the next level and that he is failing at miserably. 9

When you accept a very public, multi-million dollar contract to Coach an NFL football team, the potential for mass criticism comes along with that. I am not weeping for the "husband and father" Gase. I revile the Head Coach Gase. He will get many MANY millions of dollars, more than this forum's members will all see in their lifetimes combined, for his one (or more) year of incompetence. I do not owe him pity. This is not a "Defense" of Gase, this is a plea to emotion, a sappy attempt to stem the complete devastation of the Jets Fanbase over this year's debacle and to try and make none of it his responsibility. Sorry, he will take his lumps along with his unearned millions. We are all aware he is not solely to blame. But he IS to blame. 9

TheClashFan
People always look for scapegoates; it's human nature. The owners are not going away, and a new GM was just recently hired to a six year deal and has had very little chance to make his mark (good or bad) on the team. So, who can you focus your outrage on? Gase has had a chance and has fared poorly so far. FWIW, I did not want him hired and think he's a bad coach. However, just rage firing him accomplishes little to nothing, except for one possibly significant issue: The main reason for possibly firing Gase is the "ruining" of Darnold. Gase just loves those empty back sets or sending a lone back out as a receiver, but meanwhile the AWFUL OL continues to do a terrible job in pass protecting. Yet, Gase rarely moves the pocket/rollouts or keeps a back in to pick up the first pass rusher to break free (and that happens quickly on a large majority of the pass plays). He needs to adjust to this right away or he should be fired. I want to embrace the tank; b/c Gase is bad, the team will likely lose most of the remaining games, and that's fine, but he's got to do a better job protecting Darnold. Yes, the roster stinks. Yes, there have been lots of injuries. But, he was hired here supposedly to take Darnold to the "next level," but instead SD is regressing. That needs to stop, now. I hope JD has already communicated that to Gase.
Popular Post Nixhead
Lets take a quick look at the Islanders. They were supposed to be bad last season - not much talent. In comes a well respected very good head coach in Barry Trotz. He turns things around completely and the undermanned Islanders have a great season and make it to the second round of the playoffs. I thought the Islanders would take a step back this season - no big talent influx - basically the same team. I was wrong. Trotz not only has them playing great defense like last season but he has added offense to their game and now the Islanders are even more dangerous. Also he has the Islanders farm team playing the same system he uses so when they need a player from the farm that player fits right in and excels. Coaching is everything. Gase simply doesnt have it . He cant see past the QB. He doesnt have a good system of plays. He is narrow minded. If Gase was gonna be a good head coach by now we would know. A good head coach makes all the difference in the world especially in football. The Jets are barely competitive. Show Gase the door and get a winner in here. 5

There's a lot wrong with the Jets...management, roster, coaching, etc. I agree with the bold above that you can't simply pin this failed season on one guy....but he's clearly not part of the solution right now. The Jets were bad in 2016, 2017, 2018 and now again here in 2019, with a roster that has changed year to year and now two different head coaches. It's more than Gase....but he's not showing he's the guy who can keep a sinking ship at least afloat until help arrives. And that's really what he should be doing right now...but isn't. Gase should be able to steady a team that has a bad roster but a promising QB. I don't expect them to win except possibly against teams like Miami, Giants, Cincy but the Jets should be at least reasonably competitive and the QB shouldn't be worse than he was last year. The Jets look flat, they don't seem competitive and the QB is regressing. That's all on our offensive-minded HC in my opinion.
