McCarthy would have been a “boring” hire, and not my top choice...but I had full confidence that he would develop Darnold properly. But yea let’s not hire the coach who won a super bowl, developed a raw aaron rogers, and revived brett favre’s career. Lets hire adam gase... 7 1
Adoni Beast
That’s 2 coaches Manish “helped” the Jets avoid hiring. Marrone and McCarthy. All signs seemed to be very positive in hiring McCarthy until Manish started his smear campaign.

I didn't think Jones would make a smart hire here, so McCarthy made sense as an end result, but I at least thought he'd wait to take a close look at the college coaches. Yeah I like the hire but I thought it would be a college coach like Lincoln Riley.

The Packers organization firing him mid season was a red flag. The Packers are actually a good organization. I'm not convinced he's not a product of superior talent. We will find out. It was more like after 10 years sometimes good things just go bad. It happens all the time in the business world as well. Good, smart talented people leave good jobs after extended periods of time simply because it's time to move on. Andy Reid in Philly is a good example of that - it wasn't really anything Andy did - it was just time. McCarthy was the hire.

I’m sure he didn’t either. Rodger’s is just a douche. Play worked tho. also important to note that he had a small spat with Matt LaFleur earlier this year just like he did with MM. that’s just the way Rodgers is lol...really not an indictment on MM at all. Rodgers is old enough, good enough and been around long enough to make his own offense and succeed. That’s kind what happened. New coach or not. 13 minutes ago, Untouchable said: The crying Jordan meme is old. The “girl laughing with mouthful of water” gif is old. The Booger meme is right where it needs to be. Popular Post Warfish
1. Cousins, who I wanted to sign, has another great year and wins a big playoff game on the road with some great throws late and in OT. 2. Watson, who I wanted to draft over Adams, wins a playoff game with a spectacular personal play and pass late. 3. McCarthy, who I wanted to hire over Gase, interviewed by literally everyone so far and is the first choice of the Dallas Cowboys. 4. Gase, who I doubted from day 1, finished with the 32nd ranked Offense in the NFL. As expected. 5. The Jets O-line, which I screamed for ages was being problematically ignored and was a huge problem, was the worst O-line in the NFL this year. Nice to have some validation. 6 1
Popular Post jetstream23
I was not in favor of hiring McCarthy last year for the Jets. I felt that he was a dinosaur and that only getting to the SB once with Aaron Rodgers in a decade was an underachievement. The joke was that when you went to training camp with the Packers the playbook was the same one from 2009, with about 3 new pages inserted into it. I'm curious to see how he does with Dallas. From what I've read McCarthy may have truly used his year away from the game smartly. They're saying he spent the last 12 months reflecting, looking at how the game is being played now, and opening his mind to the role of analytics in today's NFL. If he can reinvent himself, even partially, this could be a good move. But again, it would only be because the Cowboys are getting McCarthy 2.0. I'm still of the mindset that getting the same guy the Packers had and bringing him to the Jets last year would not have been a great move.

ChuckkieB
This is a disaster waiting to happen. McCarthy will not like Jerry's meddling and constant commentary. Jerry needs a puppet like Garrett. This will end badly.

The Johnson's would not be able to meddle. That is why they would not hire him regardless of how much better of a choice he was vs. the con man they hired. They'll all want a lot of say on personnel decisions on top of their HC duties. This was going to end poorly regardless of who Jerry hired.
