The NJ income tax matters but I don't think it's as big of a deal as I've heard some people make it out to be. Cause if that were the case, we'd lose out all the time to teams in Florida and Texas on players. There's advantages and disadvantages to playing anywhere.

Players around the league talk, he might just feel like the Douglas/Saleh pairing is setup for success.

I mean cmon - when you’re making 35 million a year does it really matter?  He’d make up any loss income from taxes on being a NY Jet through ad signings.

You trade whatever it takes and worry about it later..

We’d still have plenty of cap room to improve the team  and we have enough picks where it probably won’t leave us completely bare of picks after the trade.

Exactly. People act like we're mortgaging our future when we have accumulated so many picks and cap space that we can add a franchise QB for the next 10 years and not skip a beat. The difference is we won't have more than the normal amount of picks in the first round - just 1. Why accumulate picks if you can't grab a top QB in his prime when we haven't had one since Joe Namath? If we give up our #2 overall this year, the Seattle pick next year, and another first rounder the year after, we'll still have a #1 pick this year and next, most likely two #2s and two #3s, a 4th, etc. Saying we're mortgaging our future is simply lazy. We also have cap space and he'll only count 10.5 million on this year's cap. IMO it's a no brainer - we are not mortgaging our future, we are ensuring it to be a bright one. Lastly, if we pass and the Dolphins get him, how will our future be then? Get used to 3rd or 4th place - but we'll have a lot of extra picks to look forward to.

I have no idea if Watson really wants to come here, but I doubt the 2-14 thing is all that important for several reasons.

1. The Jets have been viewed as one of the better landing spots for coaches this year, why wouldn't that apply to players?

2.  There aren't that many teams that actually have all the resources that will be required to acquire him and stay within the cap.

3.  Sports stars(mostly NBA) have been skewered for heading to these super teams to try and cement their legacies.

4.  I think(just my opinion) the Dolphins aren't nearly as good as some make them out to be.  They beat 1 team with a winning record.

Just my 2 cents.

I think it’s fair to bring up the value of rookie quarterback contracts combined with the sheer volume of draft picks we can throw at this rebuild.

It’s also fair mention that all of that is speculative and based on potential. 

Watson is already a proven, star quarterback.

The Jeremiah trade package is fair for both sides and only leaves us without a first rounder in 2023.
