Very early, very non-concrete nugget: the Jets have had talks about moving to Queens.

Guessing it would be here. Cohen has talked about wiping out all the chop shops and sh*t from the area and turning it into an entertainment destination. IIRC, this was an option for the Jets at the time of the West Side Stadium fiasco, but Woody and Jay Cross turned their nose up at it. CitiField is an awesome venue. Hopefully, they let Cohen drive the bus on this project if it came to be.

That has a nickname of the iron triangle. In the past 7 years or so it has been shrunk by 50%. They are 100 percent cleaning it up. Slowly but it’s happening

The opt out starts in 2025 and they can opt out every 5 years after that. This is the first time coming up
My guess is any talk of a new stadium is posturing to drive costs down and win a few demands. But hey a new stadium all the Jets would be sweet.

Of course and I am surrounded by Jet fans that would spring for season tickets. We are dying for the Jets to come back. It’s the best move the Jets can possibly make. MetLife has no heart and nobody wants to be there
Especially nobody from Long Island

Hopefully he buys the Jets from Woody Woodpecker and makes it happen.

And?  What does that have to do with the borough of Queens and NYS?

Lmao do you even follow what’s going on out here?

Do you not understand who our mayor is????

Lmaooo the Jets will have no problem getting funding from the complete clown show that runs NYC right now

It would be more appropriate if they were building it right here:

Should also note that the biggest pusher for this is Steve Cohen himself.  He wants to light Queens up as a destination for people/tourists.

The minute I read the title I thought of Cohen. He’s looking to build a casino, & what would be better than bringing home the NY Jets!

I always thought a project to extend Manhattan with a landfill was the best way to do this, but Queens would be just fine with me also.

I still prefer outdoor football, BUT not in the rain.  Just the cold, open air.  A retractable roof would be great or, an open roof with a clear parasol over it.  Something that looks like the Rams/Chargers stadium.  An open stadium under a huge umbrella structure.  The air and outdoor temps come in but not the rain and lightning.   And natural grass, of course.

Don’t let some nonsensical thread on a message board get your hopes up. I made a nice living brokering deals as big or bigger than this for over 35 years. This isn’t happening.
The Jets are more likely moving to London than back to Queens… and they’re not going to Europe any time soon. 😉

I’m not going to go into details about who what where and when and why because of obvious reasons, but I received a very awesome non-draft tidbit last night regarding the Jets future in New Jersey:

It’s incredibly early, but there have been preliminary talks re: moving the Jets to Queens.  Stadium would be around 1.5 billion.  Steve Cohen and the NYCFC are heavily involved.

I wouldn’t lose any sh*t about it yet, but the Jets are sick tired of dealing with the Maras.  Say what you will about Johnson, but the guy basically wants everything that the players (as well as the fans) have asked for, which is a grass field and retractable roof.  Every single proposal gets shot down by the Giants side of things.  My gut feeling/sense is that another reason they have engaged in the aforementioned talks is to use it as leverage to get what they want from NJ and the Maras in terms of upgrades.  I think they’ll (NYG and NJSEA) cave; but this is certainly something to monitor as next year is the deadline for the Jets to get out.

I'M LOSING MY sh*t!!!

too soon?

Let me guess .. you live in Queens or Long Island? The latter of which is the most inconvenient place on earth for the rest of the planet to get to and drive on.

FYI

The plans for renovating Queens are massive and getting to a stadium in Queens within 10 years will be as easy to get to as downtown Manhattan!

Thinking out loud; would be cost prohibitive. Jets still on the hook for their half of the Metlife mortgage. And why would the NJSEA make it easy for Cohen and the Johnsons to have a huge ass stadium to compete with them for concerts and other  big events? Would certainly prefer it, but think it's a pipe dream. And Big Picture it's kinda of wasteful to have 2 huge 80K+ football stadiums in the same market. Governments waste our money like it's nobody's business but suspect this would be a hard sell for NYC.

Would also note having gone to the US Open on a weeknight when the Mets were finishing out the string last summer; the traffic would be a disaster. When the Jets played and the US Open was on  back in the dark ages, same kind of nonsense. Again, personally preferable than driving to NJ, but still major uncool.

Anyone know when our 50/50 lease with the Giants ends, or when we can get out of it to build our own digs?

I wonder if seat licenses will transfer, or if they'll just charge new seat licenses?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MetLife_Stadium

The two teams formed the New Meadowlands Stadium Company, LLC (now MetLife Stadium Company), a 50/50 joint venture, to build and operate the stadium. The two teams leased the parcel of land on which the stadium stands from the NJSEA for a 25-year term, with options to extend it which could eventually reach 97 years. After the 15th year of the lease, and every five years, hence; one of the two teams may opt out of the lease after giving the state 12 months notice. The first such opportunity to opt out will occur in 2025 with a notice date of 2024. There will then be an opportunity to opt out in 2030, 2035, 2040, etc... However, if one team leaves for a new stadium, the other team would have to remain for the remainder of the lease. Based on the teams' histories, this clause presumably allows the Jets to eventually decide they want to play in their own stadium and leave if they can find a way to finance it. However, the high cost of building and relocating to a new stadium makes this very unlikely (although the Jets have relocated their facilities to Florham Park, New Jersey). The teams also get parking revenue from the Meadowlands' western parking lots year round, even when there are no events at the stadium (this would occur when other parts of the Meadowlands host events).[23]

Just curious how feasible both a natural surface and a roof are. I haven't followed closely what has happened with that technology, but is that now something that can be done?

A roof would be kind of a downer, but man this would be amazing

If retractable, it's fine. I wouldn't miss those games where it's 35 and raining for 3 hours.

Even Queens (🤮) would be a major upgrade over the garbage that is ERutherford. Spare me the "Jets are a LI team" nonsense. It's not 1975 anymore. Jets fans live all over the NY metro area. I was all about a West Side stadium, and actually think Southern Westchester is ideally located as a compromise to all the NY fans spread around, but this would be nice. The Jets desperately need to build their own identity. At least one that isn't the joke of the league.
