La Canfora on possible Pats cheating penalty

There is no penalty Goodell can give that can take away all the Pats super bowl trophies, the extra win or 2 each year from cheating that gave them home field advantage and the path to the super bowl.

And I am not convinced  that the Pats haven't cheated the salary cap for years with Brady's $.50 cents on the dollar deal compared to all the other to QB's in the league. I would bet anything that money is funneled from some Kraft company to some Brady, or Giselle company , or Brady family member interest.

The you make those super bowl trophies worthless/meaningless. Smear their names officially and have them universally be considered cheaters by EVERYONE and always have an asterisk by their super bowl wins from this era.

Goodell and Kraft spent all night working on a fair punishment.  Here it is:

The league will vacate all of the Patriot wins this season, giving them an 0-13 record to date, and dock them a 2nd round draft pick.  Goodell will say that is sufficient punishment for them so they will keep their 1st round draft pick.

Welcome to the Patriots, Joe Burrows.

The penalty needs to be severe enough to dissuade them from continuing their cheating ways. No past penalty has made the flinch.

1) Lifetime probation for Kraft. Another cheating scandal and he has to sell.

2) Minimum Sean Payton suspension (1 year) for Belichick.

Anything less the Pats will see as a joke and continue cheating.

3) Suspension of Kraft's massage parlor visitation privileges.  Hit 'em where it hurts!

Believe it when I see it.

I don't know, they've been punished every time there's been actual, provable violations.

Theres's probably little chance that they can trace this back to Belichick but they'll probably take away picks and theyll be fines.  Should be harder than Spygate I given they're repeat offenders.

Crossing my fingers.

As they should

They don't need to show intent.  The NFL has been clear that teams will be penalized for the actions, whether intent was proven or not.

I agree, should have added that.

My only point is that without a direct link to Belichick you can't see Belichick being suspended like we'd all give a nut to see happen.  And because it doesn't doesn't mean they are being shown favoritism

Ban Ernie Adams from the NFL for life. He has been the true central figure from the Patriots Skunkworks for 2 decades. Draft pick? LOL.  Bellichick drafts for sh*t at the top and it's always a bottom of the round pick anyway (you know. Because of the CHEATING).

Want to hurt them and teach a lesson? Ban Adams.

It's a foregone conclusion they're going to be penalized for this. It's just a matter of how bad the penalty is going to be. That depends on their investigation and what they are able to uncover? I have no doubt in my mind Bellichick IS involved. In any sort of "accidental scenario" where the CS has access to the downloaded information by the scout team, WHO benefits from that the most? WHO in the patsies organization is most likely to be crunching the most film? Hell, even if it was accidental as they claim there's no way anyone is going to tell me that if it ACCIDENTALLY ends up on a shared server and they ACCIDENTALLY brought it up in the course of their normal duties, that they didn't very clearly know what the hell they were looking at the very second they saw it. Besides, anyone who's been caught cheating and really didn't want it to happen again would make every effort to clear of any impropriety knowing they will automatically look guilty.

This is precisely why the Pats can never be thought of as the "GOAT" and that includes their QB!

Think of it years after Pats tapes were surreptitiously destroyed by the NFL and the most severe allegations of Pats wrong doing were covered up, they are still cheating!

Wow!!!!

They are cheating against the Bengals!!

Do you think that the  Pats might have tried to tape the Jets and maybe that is the reason why their defense has been so good this year!

Teams should lose SB victories as they did with the 80's in College Basketball!

Just Disgusting!!!

Good Grief!!! :(

When the pats* win all we hear about is how much attention to detail BB has and how he controls every little detail of the organization.

now that he’s caught cheating (again), we’re supposed to believe that he has no idea what’s going on.

EXACTLY. Apparently, Bellichick is a control freak and controls every little minor detail within the organization. So under that impression we're supposed to believe that Bellichick was completely oblivious to what was happening right under his nose. What a crock of sh*t.

Bill Simmons (Mr Patriot Fan) is trying to pass this off as "the film crew had nothing to do with the team and BB didn't know about it".  Absolutely laughable point that only the biggest Patriot homer would ever make.  It was clearly "plausible deniability" to get the film crew that supposedly wasn't hired by the team to sit there filming the Bengals' coaching staff.  The penalty this time should be absolutely massive.  Like take away their entire draft or something like that.

Haven't hear them pretend there was any interesting reason to film sideline of an opposing team. Brady is 40 something. It's their last gasp and they know it. They'll do ANYTHING to win this year, because they're gonna suck balls when he's gone.

If they want the penalty to really fit, take away all home playoff games, or even harsher, strip them of a a playoff berth.

Even ultimate Pats apologist Tedy Bruschi was wagging the finger today on the pregame show. Sounds like all the guardrails are off for the Pats at this point, and Goodell is going to be forced to act.

Yeah great. It’s safe now that the dynasty looks to be winding down.
Nothing they do to them will make me happy. Unless they taint their championships by saying they likely cheated their way to
Them and applying a good old fashioned strip of the honor.

Go ahead. That on of the the last picks in the first rd away. Who cares? It never affects their cheating lying arses.

BB should ge suspended for an entire season like Sean Peyton was.

As everyone else knows, that does not fly.

Let's say that the Patriots were not taping anything that resembled signals, they should still be fined heavily because of stupidity (based on previous transgressions). The Patriots organization (regardless of whom) authorized this. That they may have hired independent contractors to do the dirty work, does not make it any less egregious. They were operating on orders from the Pats organization.

As La Canfora states in his article, the Bengals showed the tape to their staff, so that they could see what they had taped, so they could change their signals. That lets you know the evidence is damning. That and the subcontractors asking if they can "just erase the tapes".

Hmmmmm and the Bengals are kicking the Pats butt...coincidence?????

The NFL is a joke and they have permitted the Pats to fundamentally hurt the game!!

AND..........

NOW WE KNOW WHY SAM DARNOLD WAS SEEING GHOSTS ON THE FIELD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Greif... :(

The Pats admitted what they did was illegal.

They are repeat offenders.

Word is that that many other clubs are livid.

There is enough smoke here.

They should be because this organization continues to make a mockery of the league. Since Goodell works for the owners, they should have a meeting with him, lay out the harshest penalties possible, and tell him if he doesn't follow their wishes, he's fired, and they will go to court to claw back some of his 40mm. See how fast the Pats will be neutered.

If this was the NCAA the Patriots would be given the death penalty.  They need to ban Belichick and suspend Kraft for a season.  They should also lose an entire season of draft picks.

The fans and other 31 owners should be tired of this already.  Don’t forget Kraft also embarrassed the NFL with the whole Florida prostitutes arrest.  We can debate prostitution all we want but it definitely doesn’t help Kraft this time.  The videographer is also an employee of another Kraft company.

This is where I remind everyone that Jason LaCanfora is an enormous liar and makes sh*t up out of thin air for clicks.  He's never, ever been right about anything.  His "sources" are from the random thoughts that jump into his tiny pea brain.

The Patriots got busted cheating, again.  And the league has swept it under the rug, again.  Might as well change the name of the league to: The NFL brought to you by Bob Kraft.

Here’s a report from CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora:

“The New England Patriots are facing steep penalties for their admitted illegal taping of the Bengals sideline last week, league sources said, which is likely to include the loss of at least one draft pick and heavy fines. There is the possibility of a suspension for a member of upper management and/or ownership as well, sources said, pending the results of the NFL’s full investigation into the matter.

“The Patriots are repeat offenders for violating the league’s game-day operations regulations in the past — twice being stripped of first-round picks for either illegally doctoring footballs or illegally taping an opponent — which will also factor into the ultimate discipline in this case, the sources said. The NFL takes these matters very seriously and has regularly taken away draft picks and used fines and suspensions for similar infractions, whether it be illegal use of cell phones on game day (Browns) or pumping in fake crowd noise (Falcons).”
