Popular Post JohnnyLV
I see a LOT of people here and in the media outright criticizing the Jets for picking a punter in the 6th round. I do not get that. AT ALL We love to talk about "impact" players. Well a team;s punter and kicker are two of the most impactful positions on the team. Example: If we have a remotely competent kicker week one we win period. I LOVE that we picked a punter. Look historically only 19% of 6th rounders start. But with Mann his odds of starting are 100%. His odds of being a Top 10 punter from Day 1 are high as well. Seems to me locking up the best punter in college, who Mel Kiper said is likely to be a Pro Bowler is way way better than selecting a position player with an 80% bust rate It is not that easy to sign street FAs in the NFL and expect them to perform well as kicker or punter. Rant over. 21 3
Popular Post jetstream23
6th Round pick in a Draft where you accumulated additional draft picks. Filled a need. Drafted a guy who will have a low, late round rookie salary instead of paying to extend Lac Edwards. This was very astute drafting and roster management. Braden Mann is a weapon in the ST game. I won't make a joke....okay, I will....the Jets f**king punt a lot! If this guy touches the football 5 times per game and can kick deep/directionally to net an additional 10 yards per punt then that's what Bill Parcells calls "hidden yardage." It's a net 50 yards further that your opponent needs to go to score. I like the pick a lot. And, if this guy is truly elite (say he becomes the best Punter in the NFL) then solid roster management would mean we don't franchise anyone else and could even franchise tag him for Year 5, paying him just the average of the top punters. Win - win.

Legend Killa7
I said for years the best player the Fins had on their team was the punter! You'd think with all the practice he has had the last few years that Lach Edwards would have been better....fills a need. Unfortunately, we have/had SO MANY need, that you cannot make everyone happy! Popular Post KRL
To be honest I wasn't loving drafting a punter either. But that was before I researched Mann's ability, which is beyond outrageous. To have someone that can legitimately boom a punt 65+ yards is invaluable in changing field position. The defense should never have to defend a short field with Mann's ability to flip field position
Jets723
Punter is such an underrated position. If you have a guy like Mann who can kick the shut out of the ball and pin the opposing offense down in that end if the field and having a pretty good defense like ours it will help give our offense a short field to put up points
Popular Post FidelioJet
This isn’t just a Punter... This is possibly the best Punter prospect to ever come out of college and we got him in the 6th. It’s a fantastic pick. 6

BroadwayRay
The Mann pick is now my litmus test for draft knowledge. Anyone who criticizes the move is a dunce when it comes to the football draft, as far as I'm concerned. 2
rangerous
the guy won the ray guy award. if that's a real indication of his punting ability then the jets got a steal.

CTJetsFan
Dustin Colquitt was a 3rd round pick. 15 year career with the same team. If we get 10 years of high level performance from Mann, I'd be thrilled. https://www.rotoworld.com/football/nfl/player/8772/dustin-colquitt Also heard Mann was a kickoff specialist too for A&M

Il Mostro
Mann is going to be popular with our D unit. Not just a huge leg, but he has placement skills that are out of this world. Plus he can handle kick offs -- which hopefully we'll be doing a lot more of.

Yucatan Jetfan
I wouldn't have minded if they drafted a kicker with the other 6th rounder. If he was as gifted as the punter seems to be. Sent from my SM-J701M using Tapatalk
mudcat22
I liked the Mann pick as it filled a whole we had. He was the best college punter. I just wish we had picked up a K as an UDFA. The Kickers we have suck and I hope we bring someone in to take the job. I hope we are also looking at Ks who will get cut by teams the end of camp. Yes but he was a free agent and thus would have cost us some money we really didn't need to be spending. We now have a guy on a dirt cheap rookie deal who could right away become a Top 5 Punter in the league. That's a win in my book.

ChuckkieB
He was the best punter in college football and the GM had accumulated extra picks. A 6th round pick who will be a day one starter that will immediately impact every game. What's not to like about that?

Cyberjet
This is one of my favorite picks of the draft. STs are vital and this guy is a weapon. what makes this pick so great is that JD manipulated the draft to get 10 picks thus making a pick for a punter sensible and “excusable”. If the Jets only had 5 or 6 picks you could make a stronger argument for not drafting a punter.
BUM-KNEE
The pick was kind of a no brainer actually. Gotta have a good punter, and Mann will be one of the best we've had.
Lith
Saw quite a bit of buzz on internet that Lions were interested in Mann. They spent time with him at the Sr Bowl and I read somewhere that they might have taken him with their 6 a few picks after us. Not a bad pick at all, especially when you have 9 picks. The mulltiple trade backs made it a lot easier to take a punter in 6.
kdels62
Dirt cheap Punter that most people think is the best thing since Shane Lechler. Shane Lechler was ridiculous, we can only be so lucky.

bitonti
special teams are 1/3 of the game of football and too often the Jets have treated it as an after thought Just my guess JD didn't go into this thing necessarily targetting the punter - but - like all of his picks - the Jets probably had higher value grades on the picks where they took him vs where he was supposed to go becton could have been top 5 they took 11 Mims late 1 they took at 59 Ashtyn Davis a 1-2 they took in rd 3 Bryce Hall rd 2-3 they took in rd 5 and this punter they probably had a 4-5 grade on him they took in rd 6
Long Island Leprechaun
The Bills took Tyler Bass, K, at 6, pick 9; we took Mann at 6, pick 12. Both were very smart moves.
