One day the Braxton Berrios type of player will not be on this team

Recommended Posts

Berrios was lousy all last year and you'd have to stretch to say he even had one good year. I wondered through most of the season whether him seeing the field less last year was a reflection of sucking in camp/practice or another victim of Lafleur's roster problems. Berrios even lost out on his Jet sweep to GW. When he showed up a little more at the end of the season it was all bad--I suspect Berrios is to blame for his own demise.

If you have it in your head that there is some secret plot to return ZW to the starting role, it wouldn't make sense to unload the seemingly one player who actually likes ZW.

Berrios being cut in March of 2023 doesn't make the concept of the original post in December of 2021 correct.

He's going to be replaced on the roster by someone of a similar skill level - and when you consider Berrios was a pro-bowl returner in 2021 - it's more likely that he'll be replaced on the roster by someone with less skill.

There's also been a significant change in the offensive coaching staff - meaning players down on the offensive depth chart who may have been preferred by the old coaching staff - may not have the same allure to the new staff.

The OP said that Berrios was a scrub/practice squad guy who would not be on any other team's roster.

He later in the thread admitted he was wrong.

Berrios is now a cap casualty. He will be signed as a FA soon enough and continue his career in the NFL.

I wish him well, unless he signs with the Pats, Dolphins, Bills or Giants.

Premature victory lap.

Don’t we have to wait to see what Berrios does after the Jets?

I do think he’s maybe the caliber of player that hopefully one day as fans we won’t spend much time discussing.  (Bottom of the roster players that aren’t difference makers)

Well done the OP….took a shocking amount of borderline bullying in this thread but guess what, he was right all along and those who mocked and piled on should be lining up to offer fulsome apologies

Berrios being released doesn't change anything. This was a dumb thread when it was started, and it still is.

Sometimes we get so caught up in Wilson etc. bring good or how Corey Davis doesn't live up to expectation etc. But the really big things people just dismiss or dont bring up is how bad our roster really is. We have tons of below average jags, that might pop off a play here or there in their 5000 attempts and look good every now and then, but DAMN, we need to upgrade this roster.

Some people want to extend this guys or other like him. He is a scrub player. Sorry no offense but he is not a playing ball anywhere else. I like to think and debate about our line and other positions but drafting well is really the only way to get better. And for Joe D. part in all this he has been upgrading us, this last draft especially.

I can not wait till we no longer have these guys on the squad, they are god damn practice squad guys.

SOme of this is also just bad team management like what we see in Baltimore wiht thier RB's. they had a great back in Tyson - young athletic, good player, and then they run Bell, devaonte and every other run down back in the league to replace him. Why the hell we got COleman, Ty johnson out there all year? It took way too many weeks to get Carter the ball. but look at this kid walter. He should be the back up,

so drafting is great but we also have to lose this hold on to scrub mentality. Braxton should be gone. Rant over. Also i hate Berrios.

You are the winner of the thread.

(And like many others, I gave you crap about this post)

I don’t get it - Berrios was having a pro bowl caliber season as a kick returner when the thread was started. Hence, when the thread was started, bashing Berrios made no sense.  In particular, what really made no sense was the comment that “one day the jets will not have the Berrios type on the roster.” In reality, every team has Berrios types on the roster - WR #5 types who can return kicks. Berrios was a hard-nosed player who didn’t have much ability as a WR. But the OP’s basic argument was that Berrios didn’t belong on an NFL roster  - which, again, is pure nonsense. And that will be proven true again when he signs somewhere else.

I agree with what @IndianaJetwrote above - Berrios will be replaced by someone with a similar skill level and you can make the same (dumb) thread about that guy a year from now.

This thread is as dumb as it ever was.

no apology from me.

Amen!

Who does everyone think we're replacing Berrios with - Devin Hester? It'll most likely be ... a Braxton Berrios type of player.

Can't wait to see whose practice squad BB ends up on. ;-)

But Douglas paid Berrios to be MORE than just WR5/special teams fodder.  He was something in the range of the 27th-35th highest-paid receiver in the league after he got his extension.

If we can bring in a guy on the cheap who can maybe catch a ball when it’s in his stomach and knows when NOT to fair catch, it’ll be a win.

Whose fault is that - JD's or BB's?

At the time this thread was running, BB was a bottom of the roster guy on a bottom of the roster salary, who played above what you'd expect from an average bottom of the roster guy. Yes, he got paid and yes, his contribution tailed off last year. But we were at least 20 pages deep in the "he's a scrub / PS guy" discussion by then. :D

It'll be interesting to see if we do bring in a direct replacement or if guys like Bam take over some KR duties and a Jeff Smith type ends up as the #4 / #5 WR.

The Jets are the winner of thread. It has finally happened the roster talent is NFL quality and we can all be happy about that.

It don't stop here either. Joe is not going anywhere and that mean he will continue to build and improve this team.
