One day the Braxton Berrios type of player will not be on this team

Shocking turn of events.  I figured the market would get him 3 years at 6 per for 18M plus 2 option years to make the number look big, but they just went with the 2 for 12M so he can dip back in again in a couple years or the Jets can dip out if he drops off the map.  Genius.

He plays special teams, can catch a punt. Plays hard. Never hurt. Quite literally one of the last things wrong with the team.

Wasn't thrilled with Berrios at first BUT he has grown on me. Plays hard, ALWAYS make a play every game.  Berrios is the Al Weiss of the Jets. A quiet, unassuming class act who doesn't make waves, doesn't beech about playing time, doesn't ask to be traded (hint hint) appreciates what the Jets offered him, created a role for himself as a kick/punt returner, inspector gadget trick play aficionado, is Zach's partner in crime. In essence, Berrios formed a role the Jets have utilized, explored and grown with. He is the mirror image, the personification of the rise of the Jets.  Berrios makes the Jets fun, tricky and dangerous.  His speed is deceptively fast. He adds a dimension to the offense like the former wildcard Chrebet did.  Make no mistake, Berrios is essential to this offense.

Despite the fact that he’s a diminutive slot receiver by trade, I’d suggest that Berrios is a lot more Leon Washington than Chrebet. More of a returner/gadget guy. He has more rushing yards so far this year than receiving yards.

Berrios mentioned the culture here as a reason he re-signed with the Jets. At first I was like “wtf the culture is terrible all we do is lose” but it’s clear he’s the exact type of player Douglas and Saleh want. Selfless, versatile skill set, hard worker, reliable, great locker room presence.
