Yes, lets ditch an up and coming superstar head coach for a washed up has been.  Brilliant idea.

Wow! Please put the pipe down! For once, can you just accept reality that Saleh doesn't know sh*t about offense and that Payton is a future HOF? Wake up and smell the coffee hero!

This what the article says:

Few teams poured as many resources into supporting their young quarterback this offseason as the Jets, but if Robert Saleh doesn't oversee significant improvement either on the retooled offense or his signature defense, it's possible management could turn to a proven name for a quicker fix. And Payton, besides offering the QB tutelage that could elevate (or seek to replace) Zach Wilson, knows the New Jersey area well, spending six years between the Eagles and Giants from 1997-2002. In the Jets, he'd get a big market, a young roster that should be on the rise, and a division that may have just one big threat in the Bills.

Payton will be coaching the Cowboys next year unless Dallas wins the SB this season.  It's a lock.

This!!!  McCarthy is a total placeholder

Yes, Robert Saleh who was a 4 year starter and all confernece college football tight end knows nothing about offense.

Here's what I know about Payton. Seemingly good coach, has a good track record, bailed on his organization when he saw the writing on the wall, looking to jump on the next up and coming band wagon.

Not saying I'd pass, but Saleh deserves a legit opportunity as he took the lumps last year like a man.

This has nothing to do with whether you like Saleh or not.....Peyton is a proven Top 5 HC with tons of experience. You ditch Saleh in a heartbeat if this was serious. Cold, yea? But winning makes people forget quickly

Idl man,  tough one.  Not disagreeing.  But it's really hard to promote culture change and individuals committing to the organization when the organization won't commit to individuals.

I think it would spit in the face of culture change for the organization to give up before a real opportunity has been offered.

This just seems like rumor milling to cover the summer until preseason coverage gears up. There's no rhyme or reason why these teams would be on his list. Several of those teams have new or fairly new coaches.

Sorry for Saleh dislikers, but he's almost certainly getting enough latitude to see the roster rebuild and take a stab at a season with a solid roster.

I would assume with Miami's big offer this summer and Payton's resume he's going to want to go somewhere that will give him a lot of authority. Tampa Bay might be attractive but they would have to completely wash out Arias and his staff. No way Payton is going to want another head coach watching over his shoulder.

So following your logic Payton doesn’t know shlt about defense?
Given that LaFleur runs the offense what’s your point?  That’s not how you rate HCs.
The Jets aren’t ditching their HC and staff after one season, starting from scratch again until he proves he can’t coach when he has talent to work with

There are High School teams in Texas and Florida who would kill Northern Michigan.

Payton knows more about NFL D than Saleh does by miles.
