Dunnie
Bold Move Indeed but I'm down with it. Also OCHO as WR coach n Chadwick as OB Coach Is it me ? Mangold was an OL god ... A man's man .. Absolutely one of my favorite Jets ever ... but he never came across as a driver. Doesn't seem like a guy likely to crack the whip ... Oh yeah ... Popular Post Copernicus
Love Mangold and everything he was for us as a player and advocate in his retirement however, he has ZERO experience as a coach while other guys have dedicated their careers by starting at the bottome and working their way up. From a fan and team's perspective, are we going to give the responsibility of such an important coaching position to someone who was a great player but ZERO experience? 10

68JET11
Great players, don't always make the best coaches.... Not saying he can't do it, but I would like to have seen him somewhere else doing it with success first.

At this point I’d give Nick the job to get Becton through half the season. 3
Popular Post varjet
Mangold should be an assistant and learn from someone who knows the job. Everyone has to start somewhere. 7

Popular Post Warfish
1. I want the best possible OL Coach. 2. I want Mangold to get an opportunity to coach in some form with the Jets if he truly wants that. These are not mutually exclusive desires.

MysticalJet2
Not sure the online coach but maybe an assistant to online coach. He would bring immediate respect from the online group and that translates to taking what he says to get better without questioning.

hotrodcharlie
I think it would be a good move. Look at Detroit, they are hiring former players at almost every position coach. They have taken great strides. Players listen to former players
Augustiniak
Mangold is exceptionally smart. Not only would he be a great OL coach but he’d immediately be a better game manager than saleh.
Popular Post SickJetFan
Mangold called the plays for the line and helped rookie Sanchez calling out protections...he knows his sh*t and he make a great coach. 4
Barry McCockinner
2 hours ago, FlightBoyz said: Bold Move Indeed but I'm down with it He played on some great o-lines. Being really good at something doesn't necessarily make you a good teacher though. For sure worth and interview to see how he would approach the task and whether he'd be a scheme fit (when we know what that is).
jetsons
This reads like a poll... sounds like something Woody would have put out... to just get a feel of the reaction of the fanbase. I like Mangold & being a center you make all the line calls on who to block, I would give him serious consideration, but as stated above maybe behind an experienced OL coach 1st.

Popular Post IndianaJet
My guess is that his little "hello" tweet was a joke. He's kind of a jokester. But in general I would love for him to be involved in the org in whatever capacity he fits. 3

Titan24
Not sure why he’d wanna do it….probably enjoying retirement…..may have the itch to get back. No experience? Gotta start somewhere. Will say this he would immediately get respect/buy in from the room…..as a guy who has done it and excelled recently which is important.
jgb
Didn’t we laugh at Irsay for naming Jeff Saturday interim HC? Seriously though, for such a specialized position, I’d be down.
THE BARON
I love it. Yeah, I know he has not been a coach before, but so what. He knows the position and he was a very technical player. He also called the line signals. He knows a lot of offense. Along with that he is an A+ character guy, and by all accounts, very likeable and a good communicator. If anyone can be a good coach and influence it is Mangold. Bring him in. If not OL coach, than call him a position coach, Get him on the staff. The only worry is for Saleh. Mangold could replace him as HC in a few years.

NYJCAP2
Some former players can jump right into a position coach, others are an assistant first. Mangold is an intellect, I’d think he could jump right in. Also would fit Saleh’s culture very well.

Bring in a vet OLine coach and let Mangold be his assistant. Just because players were great doesn't always mean they can coach.
