Fantastic news.  Now there is hope.

Expect the Jets to name a new playcaller soon, even if Hackett stays.

bet you more that this means AR won the political battle with Woody, and Hackett has more power not less.

In Woody’s World, you can coach an undisciplined and unprepared team.

But you can’t politicize your job and wear a flag that irritates half your customer/fan base.

Do both, and you are gone.  I think the Jets come out blazing on Monday.   This changes the entire season, at least for a few weeks.

WTF???

While this was probably the right move ... I am not happy we are in this position ... Robert was a good human and a great DC ... His team did not perform for him so its justified.  Will this save the season .. I have no idea.

For me the fact that his team has started slow all the time and repeatedly looked like ass after the bye weeks was the death knell.

It's a business. You don't hold a St. Patrick's Day parade every time you do what your supposed to do anyway. Saleh had a total lack of focus about the task at hand, and that permeated the team.

I mean I’ve been bitching about the practice regimen for 4 years. It made no sense. The guy in year one did an expose in the NY Post about his golf addiction. Police escorts from NJ to MSG in year 1.  Flying separately from the team to Tennessee. Zero self awareness/immense arrogance.

The Jets are trying to save their season.

I like that they didn't wait until the traditional "we're out of the playoff race and we need a change."

This tells me that, for once, they see what's happening and are being PROACTIVE.

It also tells me.... this is JD's last stand.

The three most important people in the football organization are the GM, HC, QB.  The current GM hired the HC and drafted his franchise QB #2.  Both of those guys are now gone.

The Jets are 2-3, but Joe Douglas is at the plate and the count is 3-2.  This is his last pitch.

Pitch count is 0-2.

Look, if you think they're gonna revamp the offense and leave Rodgers out of it, you need to get a grip. Rodgers is running the offense. If he wants Hackett, Hackett stays. Doesn't preclude Ulbricht giving waaayyyy more direction than Bobby Salad, but that's about it.

Who said anything about thinking the Jets would do the right thing? Just pointing out that firing Saleh is meaningless right now. Hackett and Carter are still in place. No one should care what Aaron Rodgers thinks.

Joe Douglas will ride out the season, regardless of how it plays out.

Hopefully, the Jets will turn it around this Monday night, I would think this will light a fire under the players, to where they will start playing some inspried football.

If they can do that, the sky is the limit.

Ulbrich to dig deep & grab the bull by the horns.

I wonder if he’s going to be stripped away play calling?

What does an OC who doesn't have play-calling and works for a defensive HC actually do then?  Honestly, unless Aaron is stamping his foot for keeping Hackett, how does he survive?

I like the "idea" of Ulbrich because he seems like a no nonsense football coach. He was likely going to be hired away as HC after this season so we might as well give him a test run to see if he can win the job. I wonder who he will tab as DC and I am anxious to see what he does with the Offense because the whole world knows he is not being named interim HC to fix the D.

Honestly ... Ulbrich is an awesome DC ... I don't know if he has the Xs and Os to do this.

He lost the team and they are too talented to be this bad. Leave politics for a different forum.

Have you not been watching? We are 2-3. Jets don’t fire at 2-3. Jets don’t fire at 1-15. Woody doesn’t fire in season. That’s a known fact in the league. Until today. The football aspect is just a cover. He deserves to be fired for his coaching but that’s not why he was fired today. He should’ve been fired months ago.

Saleh deserved to be fired, but I have no idea why anyone is assuming the team will now get better.

To wit: Hackett almost certainly comes out of this situation with more power, not less.

Staggering the firings isn’t a bad idea.

Yeah, I don't necessarily have a particular objection to that as long as it's done wisely and not solely as a sacrificial lamb, which this team has an interesting track record of.

Should still be an entire house-cleaning in a few months unless everything changes dramatically, which doesn't seem particularly likely, but I suppose would hardly be the worst thing if by some miracle it did.

Everyone sh*ts on JD ( and yes Saleh was his coach so plenty of blame) but you can’t imagine he was sitting back okay with Saleh coaching this roster he built down the drain.

The ship was taking on water.  JD didn't want to go down with it in this way so he threw the Captain overboard.

The roster is very good.  The offense, particularly the running game, are not functioning well and Hackett is not being held accountable. It's not a surprising move with the exception that the Jets never seem to do the right thing at the right time.  Fire Saleh now, in Week 14 when the team is 6-8, or at the end of the season?  They did it now so I give them some credit.  It's not yet a lost season.
