Darnold to the Panthers

Then keep him

wwtxh Carolina flip him next year for more value

first off, carolina needs to pick up his 5th year option to even have the ability to trade him next year (unless they slap the franchise tag on him after this year).

and even then, it's not very likely he gets traded, let alone for more.  if he's good, carolina will keep him.  if he's the same old sam, or even a modestly improved version, no one is giving up a ton for him either on the last year of his contract (if 5th year picked up) or on a 1-year franchise tag salary.

Two truly great NFL Head Coaches held back by Sam, amirite? :-k

Nothing gets coaches and GM's fired quicker than poor QB play.  However people want to divvy up the blame, the fact that people lose their jobs over it is an incontrovertible truth.

Meanwhile, Todd Bowles just got a Super Bowl ring.  He's at the very least a solid DC.

Thank God, we can all stop fighting!

This honestly is the best part of the trade. Couldn’t take four more weeks of the Wilson vs Trade Back And Roll With Sweet Sammy ™️ dreck.

He basically got the equivalent to 3rd, 5th and 6th this year.

True but if Carolina is not that good the value could be really high next year. It's a decent trade. Also you don't want too many contracts ending at the same time so balancing this year and next is smart. Hopefully 3 years from now Zach is the highest paid player (on an extension like Mahome) in NFL history

Whatever side of the fence you were on, it’s hard for anyone to complain about a 2,4 and 6 for one of the worst rated QBs with a 5th year option looming. For anyone saying JD got fleeced, just stop. And this is coming from an avid Sam supporter. It’s a nice haul.

Committing to Sam for another season after a 2 win season and the second overall pick just couldnt happen. The Jets had to leave this first round with a QB and a trade down probably wouldn’t have gotten them one of the big 5.

why

Because Douglas is probably going to stick and pick at 2.  In 2020, he stayed at 11 and took Becton.  In round 2, he traded down.

And the 23rd pick is a good range to move down from.  Teams are always looking to move up in the back part of the 1st.  Either from a later 1st or from the early 2nd round.  Sometimes for a QB.

Douglas will probably look to continue to load up on 2022 picks out of this draft, given all the COVID uncertainty for this year's draft class.  He's going to move down at least once.  Might as well move down from 23.

I would never miss an opportunity to bash Douglas.

This is a ridiculous return for the one of the league’s worst QB’s. I’m still expecting to hear that the 2nd in 2022 is conditional.

2nd team? What? Fraud.

I've tried to get this garbage organization out of my life for years.  Unfortunately it won't happen, but I wish Darnold well more than any other player to ever leave the Jets.  He was treated like crap here.
