The New York Jets are on the clock for the 2021 NFL Draft.

It’s a foregone conclusion the Jacksonville Jaguars will use the No. 1 pick overall on Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

So Jets general manager Joe Douglas must decide if he will trade Sam Darnold and use the No. 2 pick on a new franchise QB (BYU’s Zach Wilson or Ohio State’s Justin Fields), keep the No. 2 pick and get some help for Darnold (Oregon tackle Penei Sewell or Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith), or keep Darnold and trade the No. 2 pick to move down the board and stockpile selections.

The Boston Globe’s Ben Volin reports “there is increasing buzz the Jets are going to roll with Sam Darnold and his $920,000 salary this year, and build up the pieces around him instead of drafting a QB. Considering how many teams are hot for the top quarterback prospects, Douglas might be able to get a haul for No. 2 to add to his collection of draft picks. For a Jets team that is rebuilding from scratch, that scenario has to be very tempting.”

Keep in mind, the Jets already own six of the first 98 selections in the 2021 NFL Draft thanks to the Jamal Adams trade. And they will have close to $70 million to spend in free agency, providing Douglas with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rebuild the organization from top to bottom and inside out.

I think:

• Jets are comfortable enough to roll with Sam.

• Expect a haul and have a gentleman’s agreement with a couple of team’s already.

• Playing it patient to evaluate Wilson/Fields thoroughly and will have to be blown away by one of them to draft them.

• Will wait until the very end to trade Sam if they love Wilson or Fields to see if someone will offer a bit more out of desperation.

Sam’s salary + available salary cap + the amount of picks the Jets have and will have (with a trade down) will have this team ready to be stacked top to bottom.

I just don‘t get how you pass up on Wilson...we’ll see what happens.

All this means is there are many directions the jets can go.  As I see it the no 2 pick is something they may never have again, at least in the next decade or so, so they need to make the most of it. But if they don’t take a QBs with it then what’s their plan? Roll with darnold or some other free agent or maybe groom another QBs available in this draft or next.  We’ll see.

It amazes me to no end how much this board just eats sh*t up to reinforce their own bias.

If its ANYTHING written about the Jets obtaining Deshaun Watson, its mostly assumed to be legit info, barely questioned, and universally simped over until the thread reaches 80 pages, never mind the information was found on a rando tweet with 37 followers.

Yet..

If its ANYTHING written about the Jets sticking with Sam Darnold, it's mostly assumed to be fake news, critiqued to no end, and tossed aside at whim, no matter even if the information came directly from JD himself.

Knucklehead got the salary wrong by a factor of 10.

$9,794,266 to be precise! About $5mil less than what Watson is making this year!

Ever notice that every time there is an article is written about Watson wanting out there is an article that the Houston FO has no intention of trading him? Or today there is the report that Watson would be okay with the Jets and now all of a sudden the Jets are good keeping Sam? Or Miami is willing to give up X,Y and Z but Houston really wants the #2 pick in the draft?

The teams are communicating/negotiating through the media...this is good stuff! It doesn't mean we are guaranteed to get him since there are other teams posturing for him too but it certainly means we are in the mix!
